Default 1998 Mustang GT Parking Brake Adjustment Help

i have a 1998 Mustang GT and i just had to replace the parking brake cables, but now the parking brake cables are loose and it wont adjust. i was under the impression that our cars had a built-in self adjuster, but for some reason its not really working here. is there something im missing, some step i have to take so it can start working, or is there any way to check to see if it still works? and just to clarify, i had to replace all 3 cables, the single cable that goes from the lever and the two that go to the rear calipers. any help would be greatly appreciated.

they do have self adjusters. what was wrong with the center cable? did you just replace it because? you are goin to have to have the lever all the way down, and get under there and pull on the center cable and equalizer. what you probably did was when you took out the center cable the self adjuster spring came undone and you didnt notice. when i put my cobra lever in my car, the spring came preloaded and had a pin holding the spring. that thing is really hard to compress and you will need a friend. try taking out the lever, and you will see where the center cable hooks up. you need to turn that wheel counter clockwise a few turns so it will actually apply tension to the cables.

lxarlo, thanks for that input. i actually had to replace the center cable because i accidentally snapped mine when i was messing around trying to make custom cables for my wilwood set up. this weekend i swapped over to the cobra's IRS and needless to say the wilwood setup doesnt work anymore, so i opted to go with the stock 11.65 brake set up. when i replaced the cable the spring did loose tension, and it is really hard to compress. the thing is that i re-set the spring, but im not sure if i did it right or not, as i dont and couldnt find any instructions on it. just out of curiosity, where did you get the new lever?

got it from ford. its from a 98 cobra, and its leather wrapped. another thing you can do, is go to the ford racing website. www.fordracingparts.com look up the M2300K kit and read the instructions. it shows you how to mod the hand brake to use the center adjuster cable that the kit provides. you can get this cable seperately and all you would have to do is mod the lever. the mod calls for cutting the self adjuster spring and welding the pawl on the second to last tooth. there is a pretty good ebay store called tech parts plus more and he has the center cable.
