Default Check engine light then engine shut off. Need advice

just out of curiosity a few months back i was on the freeway really pushing it hard and all the sudden my car shut off. almost like the engine died like i had reached down and turned the key.. completely shut off. there was a check engine light... i coasted for a while because i didnt have power brakes steering or anything and pulled the car over. check the engine... oil... coolant.. nothing was visibly present telling me there was a problem. hesitantly, i started the car to see what would happen. it was fine. no check engine lights... it wasnt over heating. everything seemed perfectly fine and i have not had any problems with it ever since. does anybody know what may have cause this? is it possible something is messed up internally? any advice would be great. like i said though i have frequently been checking fluid levels and everything seems fine as far as that goes. no strange noises coming from the car... nothing. anyways i appreciate the advice or knowledge anybody would have to provide. thanks

just to clarify the order in which things happened.. the car shut off.. then the check engine light followed immediately.

thats odd then, very odd. i know every once in awhile my gt will turn off after ive been running it hard, but ive never gotten a check engine light. if nothing seems wrong with it i would just write it off. like i said mine scared me a few times like that, but its still running perfect so i dont really worry about it anymore. its probably just that it needs a tune. sorry i wasnt able to be a little more helpful here.

Default power failure 2007 Mustang

Yesterday during a on ramp turn all power to our 2007 Mustang shut off. With that of course came no brakes and no power steering. Car hit into guardrail then ditch. Per Ford Dealership no codes came up on computer. Therefore I bear the cost of a new tire, rim, cams, alignment... Becareful...I know that there is a recall on either the 2005 or 2006 Ford 150 truck for this type of problem, maybe we will soon hear of the same recall for the Mustang. Any suggestions ???

I had the same thing happen to me today! I was at a right turn, so I pushed on the breaks and I saw the check engine + coolant/oil (not sure which) light come on. Then I noticed that the car had stalled (music was on loud) So I put on the handbrake and then started the car back, everything ran normal...didn't check for codes though. I'll do that tomorrow.

EDIT: Just saw the sticky thread, nevermind =)

well i will say that if you were " on it" you know that the car will shut itself off completely and flash the check engine light if your pushing the car beyond its "limits" aka above 5k for more than a minute...has happened to me twice (tried to race my husband in his 94 ...needless to say the rev limiter kicked in and my car turned off....otherwise i have no other advice ...sorry
