It's probably in your manual... A bit of Googling gave me this link:

https://web.msslib.dealerconnection....000c5880007f22

It's for a Ford Crown Victoria, but the same should probably apply:

If you purchased additional transmitters (up to four may be programmed into memory), perform the following procedure:

To reprogram the transmitters yourself, place the key in the ignition, and turn from OFF to ON four times in rapid succession within 3 seconds. After doors lock/unlock, press any control on all transmitters (up to four). When completed, turn the ignition to OFF.

All transmitters must be programmed at the same time.
Based on the above, I suspect you do that procedure, and program both the original transmitter, aswell as the new one.

You manual may hold exactly the same information, so I'd check that first. Especially since the construction year may (or may not) see some differences.

Open your trunk look on the left side of trunk pull the panel back next to the 1/4 panel on the left side of trunk if you have keyless entry you will see a box and a plug that looks like something should be plugged up there just cross out the plug one side to the other turn on key and doors will lock and unlock now push any button on each remote you wish to program. Then take the jumper out and cut off ign. and you are thru. You can also check out www.programyourremote.com. Hope this helps.

Default programing remotes

the www.programyourremote.com website is correct turning the key on and off fast 4 times does not work the plug is small and towards the back of the left quarter pannel it will require a bit of disassembly of the trunk trim to get to it is small grey and has 2 pins poking out I jammed a big drill bit in it after turnning the ignition to the "on" position and the doors locked and unlocked each time I pressed a button on the remote both worked perfect
