Hey all!
My 97 Gt is going crazy. 2/3rds of the time, it will be fine, but that other third (going to describe this to the best of my ability) it surges, looses power (to the point to do 70mph its floored) or will be normal, drop off come back super super strong and fall off again (could be called prolonged surging I suppose). It happens the entire RPM range, but if it starts at an idle, I can floor it and have it rev with about 3/4 of its power. It idles fine, gets decent gas mileage (last time I filled up I got 26.4mpg ) but its driving me crazy! I don't have a check engine light, and its not throwing a code, but I do have an off road x pipe, with no MILs, so I dont know, Im at a loss. Any ideas? I replaced plugs, wires, coil packs, MAS, checked all fuses, replaced all filters, ect. I think it may be the TPS but Napa wants 75 bux for one and I want to figure it out before I just throw money at it. Thanks for any help!

If you have a volt meter you could test the TPS voltage reading. It should be < 1 volt with the throttlebody closed and go up to 4.9 volts wide open .

It's most likely the IAC. Clean it first (with carb cleaner) and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then replace it with a new one from the dealer.
oh no, i was just wondering if you had taken cleaned it already. how did you clean it, btw?
back to your problem tho...
try these few things before you buy anything:
1) make sure the MAF is plugged in good and no wires are loose, same with the plug wires and coils (make sure all cables going to and from the coil packs are good and not loose)
2) make sure the MAF is clean. i accidentally left mine unplugged once and it wanted to die on me everytime i hit the gas (not the same case as yours...but a faulty connection/reading could give off the same symptoms)
3) all vaccum lines are plugged in properly. mainly check all that go to and from the intake, plennum, and t/b.
let us know how it goes...

he never checked the tps... i would replace both the tps and iac. mine did this a few months ago after i changed the tb out. have you done any work on your intake your engine or modded anything lately? how many miles are on the car? could even be o2 sensors going bad because you said it does it after the car warms up(o2 sensors need to warm up for them to work properly which could be why it acts up only when the car is warm) let us know
I did check the TPS, and that was not it... You all ready for this one?
Ok, well I went and harrassed the crap out of the dealership (First Ford) and they have found out what it was. Back about 3 weeks ago, I replaced my thermestat. The one I got wasn't the right size (guy messed up at Napa once again and gave me the new, different 05 mustang therm.) and when I went to tighten it down it leaked. I figured this out, went and got the right one, and took to to a local repair shop to do the work (tired of messing with it.) The guy, in all his glory cracked the intake. He said it was like that but it wasn't. I was like ok great thanks alot a-hole. He wouldn't pay for the replacement either. So it ran fine for about 2 days, but according to Ford, what happened is it split under the intake down the drivers side bank and was loosing coolant and vacuum into the cylinders, causing surging and shorting the plugs with antifreeze.
So here is my question I believe I already know the answer to, can I get the new style (99-04) PI intake and bolt it straight to my heads and will everything work? Thanks for any help, as I will be getting a new one by the end of the day!
