Default Performance - Mach 1 vs GT's

I have a question. I'm looking into buying another mustang. Can someone tell me about the 32V motors in the Mach 1's. Are they that much faster etc. Is it worth looking for a Mach 1 performance wise? I am looking at 03-04 Mach 1's

Can't afford a 03-04 Cobra

get either a mach 1 or a 96-01 cobra. the 4v motors are much better. but, the mach 1 comes stock with 3.55 gears.. which honestly IS better stock.. but you will probably end up replacing them anyways so i dont know. the cobras are just a rare breed and a better looking car though so its tough to say. i would get a cobra personally. haha if you couldnt tell thats kinda what i did i was also considering a mach1 when i was looking into getting a mustang. i think the mach 1 has a better transmission though... not sure. there are a tone of different things to consider with the 2

with a mach1 i believe your looking at a 10.1 compression ratio, 4v navigator cams, aluminum block, 305hp 320tq to the fly, a bone stock 5 speed mach1 will run probably a 13.2-13.5 depending on driver and weather..... a stock gt will be anywere from 13.8-14.2 again depends on driver. they are a good plateform. lower than a gt, better brakes and suspension than a gt...... 3.55 gears vs 3.27 gears on the gts

mach1s have a slightly better trann as said above TR3650 they sometimes have problems with 3rd gear syncro but then again the T45 isnt that great of a tranny either.

a 99-01 cobra are nice finds too. but i hate IRS in rear, i rather a solid axle....

true.. the cobra motor though is all aluminum as well. they are basically the same engine. its tough to say though.. and you gotta consider that you will probably end up wanting to change the gears anyways for like 4.10's or something because with a 4v motor there is really no other way to go. they respond so well to the steep gear setup. its your call though

as much as i love the looks of the 96-98 cobras, i would get the mach1. in the long run it will prove to be a slightly better platform for future mods. the mach1 4v and the 96-98 4v are similar engines in the fact that they are both all aluminum 4v engines and are both n/a, but the heads are totally different. the 96-98 has the dual port design ("B" series heads) which have been said to do better with a blower, but your power levels are limited unless you mod the heads (around 400-450rwhp, i think). the mach1 used (and correct me if im wrong) "C" heads which no longer offer the dual port design and instead use the tumble port design. if you want to keep your car n/a, then the mach1 is the way to go.
besides, they are also more of a limited production than the 96-98 cobras, and have newer interior creature comforts. not to mention the shaker hood and the front lip already...

EDIT: i also believe that the mach1s came with traction control also...that would be a nice thing to have

thats a good point. it does depend a lot on whether or not you want your car to naturally aspirated or not. both good cars... depends on what you want to do. i dont like the mach1 interiors though i think they are ugly as a 50 year old russian prostitute haha

i dunno....the cobra would also be cheaper, but the mach1 looks better in my opinion (its grown on me).

but since his original thread was asking about the differences between the GT and the mach1, if you find them for a reasonable price i would get the mach1. there are so many differences in performance between the two that it would be worth it. as stated above, the mach1 runs about a second faster than the GT, so you would already have that advantage. the mach1 also responds better to mods than the get does mainly because it can breath so much better, so keep that in mind when you look at the prices on some of the mods. the mach1 is a better platform, imo.

so once again my vote would go for the mach1

No, the mach 1 heads are not C heads. They are a tumbleport design, but the C heads only came on 99/01 cobra's. 03/04 heads are a tumbleport design, with a much better shortturn intake radius, and a much larger exhaust port. They flow a lot more than C heads.

figured i was wrong, wasnt sure what the head design was called, but proof enough of why to get the mach1 over the GT or 96-98 cobra

Yep.

In fact, i've seen a couple mach 1's, make 350rwhp N/A on the stock longblock. They are very nice engines

GET THE MACH 1, HANDS DOWN STOCK WILL SMOKE A GT EVEN IF HE HAS ALL THE LITTLE BOLT-ONS. I WISH I NEVER SOLD MINE. ALL YOU NEED IS A GOOD CAI KIT, PROGAMMER, 4:10 GEARS AND GET THE SLP LOUDMOUTH 1 CAT-BACK AND YOU WILL BE SET.
