Hi all I am a proud owner of a 01 mustang gt convt that is now supercharged and getting 423hp at the rear-end
Unfortunately I am having a problem with the drive train
I bought a brand new tremic trans before I did the supercharger and ever since then its been down hill
I have a centerforce D/F clutch with all stock quadrant and cable setup and triax short throw
From a dead stop I cant get it into 1st. it feels like a brick wall, it bad enough were I have bruises on my palm from it
the only way to get it into first is to force it into 3rd ( which isn’t much better) release the clutch so the car move literally an inch then she will go right in to first like butter
Once moving I have zero issues with shifting and can even chirp going into forth its just from a dead stop and this happens 80to 90% of the time The worst part is it makes me look like I cant drive stick, its very embarrassing. I need this fixed, I’m starting to get used to shifting to 3rd first, not good
I called the place were I got the Trans And convinced them it was bad ( not an easy thing to do ) and they gave me another brand new trans
Still have the same problem
The shop I go to still thinks its the trans What would the odds be of two defective transmissions? I get no grinding at all Could this be a cable or clutch problem?

Please help
Did you get the Centerforce setup new when you swapped tranny's? Sounds to me like a clutch issue. 1st and 3rd gear are not connected at all in a 5 speed so if you can't get 1st or 3rd, I'll say clutch/quadrant issue.
Did you test shift it before sticking it in the car? Did it shift fine then?
sounds to me like the clutch isnt adjusted right. isnt the 01 mustang supposed to have the self-adjusting feature for the clutch?
Yeah, so does my '00. Self adjusting doesn't mean it adjusts itself though , you'll need to stroke the clutch pedal about 20 times before it is "set " right. After my tranny swap, my clutch dis-engaged right at the floor. After about 20 or so strokes of the clutch pedal, it adjusted so now it dis-engages 1/2 way down.
you absolutely need an aftermarket quadrant. The stock plastic POS isn't good enough for my saturn.
Proper clutch adjustment is a must with aftermarket clutches, you're finding that out now. Contact www.nitrostangracing.com or www.artsperformanceparts.com and tell them I sent you. They'll set you up with what you need.
What you are feeling is a clutch concern. You need to check your clutch reserve, with the shifter in reverse and clutch depressed engine running, move shifter about halfway between reverse and neutral, then slowly start releasing clutch while maintaining light pressure on shifter towards reverse. Trans should behave as if it is in neutral, gear clash can now be heard as you are keeping light pressure on shifter toward reverse, while maintaing the light pressure on shifter slowly depress clutch until gear clash stops and it goes into reverse. There should be a minium of 3/4" before pedal hits floor when the gear clash stops. This is your pedal reserve or free travel. You can then try and adjust the quadurant by lifting up on the pedal, just reach and grab it with you hand and pull up. If you still can not get this free travel make sure nothing is obstructing it like floor mat etc. Then check the pedal downstop to see if it may be preventing the pedal from reaching its full travel. If not then remove the rubber stopper on the down stop. If you need additional travel you can loosen the clutch pedal shaft nut and adjust.
I will have to try the reverse gear theory never herd of that before
When I first put the center force in, I had my original trans and had and had put in an adjustable cable and quadrant but every time I pushed the cable down it looked like I was going to rip it off the fire wall. Maybe there is a better adjuster that has more than one screw to the fire wall
When I put everything back to stock I had no issues. It was only when I swapped transmissions did I have this issue
I still have the original clutch fork in there, can that cause any issues
When I get it into third it seems to line up the syncro and then first is fine
One thing that did change only when I replaced the trans was the shifter. I had a triax the day after it rolled off the assembly line But the trans guy said it looked warped when I was replacing the trans so I bought the orange MGW shifter could the shifter be causing this
if the shifter stop points arent adjusted properly, yes it cause this, but im still thinking its an adjustment issue. i dont think the clutch fork would have anything to do with your problem at this point

The best Mom-lady I could have ever asked for
finnaly got a chance to have it not go into 1st with no cars behind me . so i left the cluch down, turned off the car, and it went right into first
what does that mean
every now and then i will hear a clunk going into 1st also does that help at all
again any one know of a good firewall adjuster that has more than one screw holding it down
It means what we've been telling you since your first post. Clutch. There are many companies that sell the quadrant, I deal with Promotion Performance in Ft. Lauderdale. Call Walt at 954-771-5575 and he'll be able to help you.

not that i know of. on my car i have an aftermarket one, not sure the brand (mechanic put it in for me and didnt tell me, i guess its that was a good thing) and i have also had the BBK one in there, and they both hold up good. if you want, and this is what i did before hand, you can still put both screws on there. one will go where its supposed to go, and the other will still be able to grab hold of the adjuster with the built-in washer the screw has. i did that for awhile, until i adjusted it so close to the firewall it got stuck. its been fine with 1 screw since forever now
