I have been seeing a lot of mustangs with 20 inch rims on them. Also some Z28's and firechickens. I haven't gotten too close or talked to anyone of these mustang owners about it. Also my buddy at Discount says get the 20's. Will this add or hurt the driving of my mustang? I want it to handle as good as it looks.
I was looking into some 18x9 and 10, like the Saleen. But now everyone is saying do 20's?
A friend of mine has 20's on his car. It's not a Mustang, but the same size and weight. He gets a bit of bump steer and he is running the factory suspension. The wheels look huge, almost too big for the car. They get heaps of attention but the tires are expensive ! I am undecided on whether I like them or not.

For starters, you won't have any traction whatsoever(as far as taking off is concerned). Also, handling is mostly attained on the setup of your suspension, not rim size. Personally i think 20's on a mustang is fugly, but to each his own.
I would stay with the stock wheel size (mine are 17") or up only one size to the 18" no bigger.
I think 20's on a Mustang look about as stupid as 22's on a caddy. They're only good if you are looking for help selling crack on the local street corner or city park....just MY $0.02 worth.
I like my 17's. I wouldn't go any bigger then 18's though... I think 20's are fugly. I people always get 20's on their maro's and then complain about how they rub and sh*t. I work at a performance warehouse. I hear this crap all the time. All I say is 'I told you so!!!'
the bigger the wheel the more ineffective your gear is. if you have a stock rear end 20's will kill your take off. there is a formula in one of my old summit catalogs i'll see if i can find it but basically if you have a 308 and put 20 on there your gear would be closer to 273 tires would be really expensive too

not sure about the formula.. but i know that a 4wd with 4.10's in the rear and 4.11's front with 16" rims and 33" tires make it approx. a 3.55 (dunno for sure, just a good point of reference.)
I think the 20's thing is a fad and will pass, but 18s have been around for ages. The tires will be a LOT more expensive for 20s also. Throw all that in with what the rest of the guys are saying about it killing takeoff, rubbing and things of that nature. Not even to mention that Mustangs look like circus clown midget cars on crack with anything larger than 18's. I'd say go with a big fat beefy set of 18x whatever you can cram in there and be done with it. I plan on going for some 18x10's up front and 11's in back.
