I am in dire need for some assistance with this DTC Code. I have a 1997 Mustang and the check engine light is on and showing this code P1443. Please help me correct this problem - do not want to take it to the shop- I am a single mother of three boys that can help replace parts. Thanks.

check this site and it will tell you what the code means and what are the possible problems. its basically saying that there might be a blocked hose somewhere in the system or the purge valve is stuck. these are relatively easy to check (the hoses), but the valve might be a little trickier. from what ive been told, the EVAP canister is located in the passanger side fender. aside from this, im afraid i cant offer anymore useful help as im not too familiar with this are of the car.

good luck tho, and hopefully someone else can chirp in with some more info

Good one, X. I'd be prepared to replace the sensor and all hoses just to make sure I got the problem solved.

I posted this fix back in March.

EASY fix and fairly cheap.

From previous thread I posted in:

"Had the exact code on my 96 a month or so ago. I bought a new purge cannister valve (like $40 at O'Reilley Auto Part) and swapped it out in 5 minutes. Easy fix and the CEL has been off ever since. The purge canister is next to the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The valve/ solenoid is in front of that. You can trace the lines to find it. Disconnect the harness and the line and switch out and you're good to go.

Edit - I noticed you didn't specify what year your Stang was but it should be relevant. Also - there's a sleeve on the new valve so don't throw it away. It gets transferred to the new part.

Cheers!"

Definately check the lines before buying anything but it's most likely the valve. It's pretty common for them to fail.

Hope that helps!

Also check out the plastic return tube going to the tank u may have pinched the hose with the rear end and have a pin hole leak.

I am having the same issue. I can see that my hose is torn at the purge canister. Will I have to drop the tank to replace that hose. Also, should I got ahead and replace the canister while I am at it?
