I think I'm asking the obvious here, but just thought I'd get other opinions. I have the tranny out and the clutch off, and the flywheel looks pretty rough, I'm guessing it's covered in hotspots. I've spent more than enough already, but if I'm spending the money for a stage 2, I may as well do it right. Let me know what you think..........
BTW, the flywheel was resurfaced less than 10k ago, but the clutch was slipping BAD for a week, I think I did it in!
Yeah man, get it cleaned up. There's no point in doing it halfway with a job like this. You'll just have the tranny out again in a couple months to do it if you don't do it now.

Dropped it off this morning. I also have stripped threads in the bell housing for the starter and another starter bolt that had the head break off. This project just ain't going my way !

wow, that really sucks, but good call on the resurface. that flywheel looked like it had plenty of hotspots and needed it. which starter bolt is the one that got stripped and which one is the one that broke? cuz you really only need 2 of the 3 bolts....

Right now, the only good one is the impossible one to get to ! If for some reason I can't re-tap it, I'll bore it out and run a bolt all the way through and secure it with a nut, there is plenty of room for that and it would make removal easier in the future.

you know what, everyone says that the top one is damn near impossible to get to, but its always been super easy for me. each time have to remove the starter, it takes me about 5-10 minutes. those other 2 bolts arent too hard to remove as is, but yeah if you cant tap it boring it out sounds like a good idea. i know you dont want to spend anymore money (and already sent the flywheel out to be re-surfaced), but i would have suggested you get an aluminum flywheel. i got it for my car and its one of the best mods ive ever done

The first time I took the tranny out, it took 20-30 minutes to get that bolt out and I never put it back in. Hopefully I can find it as I need to replace the one that snapped. I thought about an aluminum flywheel, but I don't have the extra $200+ to spend at the moment. Also, some people say a light flywheel may hurt your launch in drag racing, not sure how true that is.
Maybe a billet steel one would be the best of both worlds? Not sure about the aluminum rumor, it seems like it would help rev faster with tthe weight reduction...

i havent had any problems launching, and my launches have been the same from day 1, so i dunno either. i just like it cuz it really does make it rev a lot faster than stock.

If you can't find that one particular bolt, just take one of the others to NAPA and get one like that and a nut with lockwasher to go on the backside of it.
