I am finally ready to get a set of 4:10 gears but I am unsure on what to get, and also what i have to get to go with them. I am going to have a mustang shop put them in but, what, beside the gears do i need to get for the install. I have an automatic and i rarely drive on the highway, mostly city and 55mph country roads. I see on americanmuscle.com that the FRPP gears at 240 bucks and the motive gears are just 160 bucks. So how much better are the FRPP gears. Which ones would be better. Any feedback would be great.
only thing that brings me down even though they say motives make frpp's is that i had motive 373s and i snapped them. after that i wont own another one. i bought OEM ford 373s running strong so far!

Motive doesnt' make all of the FRPP gears, only the ones with the part # ending in -M
FRPP sells sets that are original Ford gears, that don't have the pinion depth stamped into them.
I have motive 3.90s and couldnt be happier with them. There is no gear whine, and I fairly regularly go to the track and havent blown or broken anything yet so I couldnt say a bad word about motive gears.

Thanks
I asked the same question on here about 4 months ago and got alot responses. Most of the posters said Motive was crap and would make a lot of noise etc.... I ended up buying them anyways(3.55's). I have had no issues at all with them. Just be sure whoever installs them, has done gears before and knows what they are doing.
As far as what else you need..... I bought a new Trac-Lok assembly and a install kit.
Go with PI heads and quit watching The Fast and the Furious. (thanks 2 IhaveadopeGT)
Remember, it is almost impossible for anyone, myself included, to diagnose a problem over the internet without seeing the car. My advice is simply that, advice based on years of experience. I don't want you or anyone taking my word as gospel. I am trying to give some direction as to what I think may be happening.
My 4.30 Motives are screaming for help right now. It's probably not the R&P gears though, I put the diff. back in with the spider gears chipped and very worn. A 31-spline diff. and moser axles are on the shopping list for my build! A proper installation is more important than the brand of gears IMO.
My motive 3.73's are fine. FRPP n Motive are both good gears but if either one of them are installed incorrectly they will wine. when installed properly and broken in w. proper heat cycles they wont make any noise.
