this thread is fairly old and the problem probably fixed, but i want to say what happened to me. my tob ceased to the
tranny giving me the inability to shift gears. not too noticeable at first, then the whining started, clutch pedal getting stuck, barely driveable. got onto the highway on the way to a friends garage who would do the work for me, it stuck in forth gear with no plans on coming out, barely got the car there the whining turned to a scream after this...my dad drove it i followed in his car i was whincing the whole time.
my friend ended up having to use an air tool to cut the tob off the
trans, it was mangled and annihilated. the clutch wasn't even in that bad of shape., replaced the clutch and machined the flywheel and the shifts are fine as wine now! hope this info helps some.
