All;
I am new to this forum (1st post), and to be honest, new to the 4.6 DOHC engine. I am building a custom chassis that has a V8 attached to a Porsche G50 transmission mounted longitudinally behind the cockpit. The frame and eventual car will be a replica of a Ferrari 288 GTO. The custom frame is pretty much built and I have fiberglass panels for the body but I have a personal dilemma about the engine.
The current setup has the frame accepting a small block Chev V8 but I really don't care for the SBC. The Ferrari 288 GTO had a 2.8 litre dual turbo charged DOHC V8 mounted longitudinally behind the cockpit. In my humble opinion, the SBC just does not cut it for me in this regard. I am looking for something a little more exotic in my build but still readily available with lots of aftermarket parts and support. Doing searches on the web, I found that some later model Fords, (including the Mustang), came with a 4.6 Litre DOHC. I think that this engine is exactly what I am looking for in my build.
Sorry for the long winded intro but I thought I should get it in there for everyone to understand my question when I finally got around to posing it......
If I was to put the 4.6 DOHC into my project, what electronics would I require to make sure the engine runs when installed and hooked up? I plan on using a Painless wiring harness for the rest of the car so I do not believe getting the power etc. will be an issue. I can easily use the Mustang painless wiring harness in the car as the car is currently agnostic on brand at this point.
Mechanically, I won't have a problem either as I can get an adaptor plate from Kennedy Engineering to mate the 4.6 to the G50
trans rather than the SBC adaptor plate I have now.
I ask for advice on what will be required to install the engine and get it fired. AsI said earlier, I do not have a lot of experince with the Ford in general and the 4.6 DOHC in particuler so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Don
