Exclamation Transmission Help, is the AODE better than the AOD?

I have a 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 and my automatic transmission recently crapped out. It has been repaired before and to fix it again would cost probably as much as a new one. That being said, what kind of automatic transmission would anyone recommend? Also, what is the difference between an AOD and an AODE transmission?
I would like to keep the price down as much a possible but still have a little room to do some modifications down the road. Please Help

Thanks

Default tranny question

Not very sure of the major differences between the AOD and the AODE. I have the AODE and a few buddies of mine have the AOD in their fox bodies. They always have problems with their trannies. I had mine rebuilt because I flat-towed the car from texas to arizona like an idiot without disconnecting the driveshaft. Never had problems before, or after that. I highly recommend the AODE, but thats just because I have had a pretty good run with mine.

The AODE is the electronic version of the AOD. It's stronger than the AOD, but it needs a computer to operate it.

it is a loty of work to switch to a aode but anything can be done but if cost is an issue maybe think about a c6 they pretty much bolt up and are stronger as long as you dont need overdrive. if you do get a book and rebuild the aod yourself and install a shift correction kit i did and i have no problems drive 70 miles a day to work and still being able to chirp second

If your going with a 3 speed auto (C4-C6) tranny. Go with the C-4. Its lighter, less expensive, and can be made stronger. Mine is rated for 500hp and 450 ft/lbs and it cost 600 bucks. Also, I would not suggest rebuilding your auto tranny if you arent good with cars. You dont want to mess it up and then hafta buy a completely new tanny.

Now the AODE is stronger than an AOD, this is in stock trim. Performance Automatics makes a Bullet proof AOD that can handle power levels from 300-750, but they cost. However if you never want to worry about it I would go with the one for you power level. Dont get the 750 hp level if your car only makes 300.
