Default 15x3.5 - 15x7 rims on front - how to fit ?

I already post it on 94-95 thread, so I copy its here...

Guys, sometimes in Internet I see in pictures SN95 with front Welds rims like 15x3.5 on GT`s & SVT Cobras..

How they fit it on cars ?
Are breaks calipers disturb fitting wheels or not ??

Thanx very much...

(I have 95 GT)

First, Welcome Home to AFM! St. Pete is a LONG way from here! (Place I've long wanted to visit, though).

I'm also going to move this thread over to the 5.0 talk area (that's the size motor and category where the 95 GT's fit).

As for the question about running the littles (3.5 x 15) wheels and the slick setup on the rear, that is almost exclusively done for the drag strip. It ruins the ride and handling of the car for the street.

People that do this usually fit smaller, lighter weight brakes on the car to save weight and go faster, too.

The idea of the 15 or 16" wheels on the back is to allow room for tall tires and particularly "wrinkle wall" slicks (the tires are designed to really grip until the sidewalls literally wrinkle because of the stress). The tires also "grow" taller as they spin faster and faster.

Again, these tires are NOT street legal, and are for the strip only.

DOT tires are a compromised version which is street legal (except in the rain, so its a grey area), and drag radials (like the Nittos and BFGs so many folks run) are a good street/strip compromise.

Hope that helps. You are very welcome here!

I think I`ll choose another way...

1)
I choose 16x7 Cragar classic wheels to front (like Cragar 397) to use with 225\55\R16 street tires like "goodyear F1" or 215/55/R16 "Cobra Cooper GT"

& 15x10 Cragar 397 to rear, to use with 295\50\R15 Tyres like BF Goodrich Radial T/A or Cooper Cobra GT

What u think about this ?

Or maybe I can do this:

2)
Cragar 346 (16x7) on front (from jeep wrangler) & 15x10 Welds Draglites on rear...(If i find 346`s Cragars...)

I like how looks mustang SN95 with oldschool rims... its awesome! Like drag car.. (In real, in russian roads, small rims & high profile tires (like R14, R15, R16) live much longer, than R18-19-20 small profile analogs)

Default Big and Little

You should be able to get away with the 16" wheels up front, but the 15" tires will be MUCH shorter than they need to be to fill in the wheel well.

Most people looking to add more of a rake to the car do it by installing shorter spring sets and larger wheels and tires.

Dropping the front springs 1.5" and the rear about 1", then running 16's up front and 17's in the back would net about a 2" difference.

Requires that the speedo be adjusted to match the larger rear wheels, though, if the car currently has 16".

Again, if the car is to be driven on the street everyday, getting an exaggerated drag strip rake can result in poor (even dangerous) handling. If its just a show car or strip racer, sure, go for the outrageous.

295\50R15 & 235\55\R16

This tyres have almost identical external diameter (Or I dont understand, what distanse u have vew of "much shorter") If you said about - front wheels ext. diameter much bigger than rear wheels, U see what its identical..

OK, I guess I'm confused here.

I thought you wanted the visual effect of the drag racers, with small wheels/tires up front, and larger in the back?

Also, the rear wheels overall size is smaller than what will look good back there (full wheel wells = good looks) - at least according to the usual standards of Mustangers.

Hit the pic galleries here on AFM for cars like yours and see if you can find members with setups you like, then hit their profile pages and see if they list the sizes. Most folks will also respond to a PM (personal message) with that data.

I'll look around and see if I can find a good example and get you the link.
