Default Remanufactured 5.0 engine. Who makes the best?

Hey guys, I plan on keeping the 91 GT until I pass away (I'm not kidding as this is my dream car) but one thing I may consider is a re-manufactured engine. Is is o.k. to buy one from a place such as O'Reiley or Advanced Auto Parts? I believe that both places offer a pretty good warranty and at both places the engines run between $1500 to $2000. Also, my car has quite a few after-market performance parts that I would like to carry over to the new engine in the future, would this be safe to do? I am only talking about the intakes, fuel injectors, water pump etc., nothing internal such as the camshaft or pistons.

I have to admit, this car gives me more smiles per mile than any other vehicle I have ever owned and what is a couple thousand in a new motor vs. buying a new car for the kind of performance the 'Stangs have to offer.

Also, I have noticed, especially where I live, a lack of mechanic shops around that do re-builds. I know that a re-build is a time consuming and expensive process but I thought there was a time where a re-build was cheaper than buying a re-manufactured engine, but I could be wrong.

Finally, I havent seen much info on this website about re-manufactured engines so I thought it would be nice to start some discussion about them.

do you have any local speed shops? if you do that is probaly your best bet the one near my house could rebuild it with upgraded pistons and cam for around the same price and still warranty it. look in to it if you have knowledge you can save money and go faster.

Summit or Jegs sells some good Ford short or long blocks also. Check on which internals are included in the NAPA or O'Reileys units as far as cam and pistons. Just make sure of what you would be getting.

Make sure if you go the remanufactured route, that you get forged pistons, ARP rod bolts, and moly rings. If you do, it should be fine to use.

guys you forgetting the guy's price range...I'm not even sure you can get a jasper for that but they do have a longer warranty and you deal with local people...so you don't lose 300 or so in shipping cost..

I have a replacement engine for Advanced and I think it was around 2200 for the engine and install. Had a local buddy do it who has been into cars for a long time. He and his brother where restoring an old Camaro, be-a-utiful car!

Anyway, I have put about 10k miles on it and no problems. Although the tranny did die shortly after the engine (it needed a rebuild too) and the crate engine was making more than twice what the stock engine was, lol. I got a long block so it got new heads, but my intake, carb, and other things were swapped out with no problem. I say go for it.
