Default 1992 Mustang LX 4cylinder to 5.0L conversion

I picked up a 1992 Mustang LX Convertible for $1000. 4 cylinder automatic transmission, red with grey cloth and black top. Odometer shows 140,000 miles. Motor is bad, body is immaculate. I believe the mileage is accurate from overall condition of the car.

I want to swap a 5.0L into it. Who has done this? What was the most difficult part about it. Can anyone point me to any good article or issues in the various Mustang magazines that cover this subject. I'm a decent mechanic but not a pro by any means. I'd really like to do this through the Fall. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There's a sticky thread at the top of the 5.0 tech area that details this very thing. Check that out and it should cover everything you need to know.

I have done and regret this. You need a donor 5.0 car to do it right. The amount of parts you will end up needing will kill you in the end unless you have a good donor. There is nothing especially hard but your 4 CYL ignition won't work and niether will your drive train, brakes, etc... If you do it from scratch you will never finish for less than $7K... you get a donor and it might even be fun.

I agree with dhfb, its just plain easier to start with a donor car, in your case you need to look for a 92-93 5.0 donor car because of the wiring harness, or get and older model donor car and buy a engine wiring harness from a 92-93 5.0. You can keep your brakes, I just did this swap and the stock brakes are just fine unless you're goin to turn it into a 10 sec. car.
