Default Just saying Hi and looking for help on a motor.

I just figured the Mustang community would be a good place for information on building a small block Ford (331ci). I’m working on a new project that is going to need a motor but the last one I built was almost 20 years ago when there was very little aftermarket parts available (compared to now). Heads and cams are the biggest improvement over the past 20 years and I was hoping for input from this group.

Can anyone give me feedback on D&D Motorsport, especially if you bought an engine from them? Their WEB site seems upfront but I’m looking for stuff like, “they’re great, best ever send them all your money” or “don’t send them any money they’re in Botswana”.

I'm looking to build a street and occasional open track motor in the 375 to 425 HP range, the car weighs in at 2200lbs with a final drive ratio of 3.70 and will have a 715cfm carb.

What I’m not looking for is someone wanting me to build a 12sec balls to the wall 260ci with 5.14 gears that’s almost undrivable on the street, it was fun but I’m not doing it again!

welcome.....

things have change a lot in 20 yrs. a 12 sec mustang is really achievable today with bolt on over the counter parts...

the easy way is to buy a crate motor ...

the horsepower rating you get is the only limited to depth of your pockets....

the are many power adders available such as superchargers ....turbo's ......nitrous

using one will give "12sec" performance and still maintaining drive-ability ....

you can keep all your creature comforts a/c ...heater power windows.....etc

the 331 one is a good platform

you will find here many opinions to help with your build....

to answer you question about D&D i personally have never use anything form them .....but have never heard anything bad.....

there are many suppliers of crate motor that fit your requirements

Jegs ....Summitt ....CHP....Ford Racing ....just to name a few ....

hope this helps you....

Default Sorry I guess I didn't give enough info

Thanks for the input and if money was no object there are any number of great engine builders out there that would gladly unburden my wallet to the tune of $8k to $35 K. The motor is not for a Mustang and my 12sec reference was to a 1965 Falcon I used to drive/race back in the late 60’s. To run a mid 12 sec car back then and still use it as a daily driver with a 260ci motor made for an interesting ride that I would rather not repeat.
Currently money is a primary issue. The project I’m working on is about $6k over budget or about the difference between the engine I want and the engine I can afford. The D&D site has a 425HP long block for $4295.95 which looks pretty good. I was hoping for input.
