I dont think you could go wrong by getting a newer body style s197. My buddy has an 06 gt and the thing is nice. Yeah the car ways at least 500 lbs more then my fox, but you also get a lot nicer ride. I love the fox bodies but when it comes down to it, sitting in the new one and then sitting in the fox body... there's no comparison. The fox body is pretty simple and has not too many features, no cup holder for gods sake! Anyways if you can handle taking a drive in a new s197 and knowing that youll see at least 10 more on the street when you go somewhere then go for it. Plus it sounds like it is going to be one of your only rides... So having a couple options and a cup holder might not be so bad!

By the way, I raced my old 89 5.0 GT convertible automatic with 3.55s, full exhaust, air kit against his 06 GT hardtop and he pulled away from me with no problem. Now I have a 90 GT hardtop manual which I believe would keep up with him.

Either way man, the foxes are nice and are becoming very rare, and the new ones are cutting edge but very plentiful. It seems like these days your not going to get to much respect unless have a special edition s197.

Lastly I just wanted to throw this out there. If you sold your maixma you could fix up your 5.0 completely. Throw in a 6 speed tranny (help a little with mileage), supercharge it, and probably build the engine (heads, cam, intake... so on). I would respect that choice more then any other. Another suggestion is that you could even consider buying a 03 04 cobra for about the same price as the new body style. The difference is about 100hp.

Anyways, hope this helps!

The '99-'04 New Edge GT came with a 4.6L modular V8 that has the higher-flowing PI heads/intake and a factory-rated 260hp/302lbft. This rating was slightly conservative 'cause they typically put down about 230-235rwhp/265-270rwtq in stock form. 0-60 takes about 5.5secs and it reaches the 1/4 mile in about 14.2 @ 100 with a 3.27 rear end. Respectable but a 3.5L V6 Maxima should match it if it's a stick shift.
I'd go for the Stang for looks and style alone, never mind the mod potential, and a 3.73 rear end swap would be a good place to start.

With my experience its normal to feel that the fox is faster. When I test drove my 03 I thought my fox would smoke it but I was wrong. It just feels like it because the fox has more torque. Granted a fox will holeshot a newedge every time with driver mod but it wont escape the newedge in 1/4. Id say it would be door to door with your fox. The stock newedge shifters suck too youd want to upgrade that and you could tell a difference...

Thank to everyone for your input for now I have made up my mind I will keep my current setup. I'm going to build my 90's motor with a cheap H/C/I combo probably the gt 40s, cobra, and e303 cam seems like I could get a good jump in power with that over what I have now. I think I'm bout to get a different job which will allow a vehicle allowance cause I have to use my personal cars so the next thing I'm looking at is a 01 or newer honda cbr600 (that's a bike I hope that doesn't make me a ricer lol)
