I'm guessing it's a stock engine?

What kind of carb? How many miles on the motor? If your engine is on and idling, there is engine vacuum, impossible to show zero. Bad gauge? Hooked up incorrectly? It's possible you need a carb rebuild.

Check your ignition components next. See if they are failing. It is possible that they overheat and then short out until they cool off. You'll need to check for spark when it quits and check the ignition components then.

Yeah there is. On the end of the pickup there is a small filter. I had to change that in my 85 GT I used to have because of fuel starvation issues. You can buy that filter through Ford. It has a D9 part number but was used up through the mid 90's on some vehicles. Check this thread out and get the part number.

That's right, if that strainer comes off you'll have fuel delivery problems. Be a good time to make sure everything in the tank is good too.
