Default Heads, cam, intake, combos.

I was wondering what some of the most popular h/c/i combos there are available for the 5.0. Also what price and hp/tq gains one could reasonably expect from these.

Yeah the H-C-I Heads, cam, & intake represent like 90% of the power output of the car.

So many other things do not really affect power like people claim they do. Gears, air filter, mass air, and even exhaust are all well and good, but the HCI is where the majority of the power comes from.

AFR heads, and Edelbrock intake and a Crane or Comp Cam will get that thing to scream - but those mods will cost as much as the car is worth.

I went the junkyard route and have Explorer heads/intake and a 87-88 H.O. cam. Cheap! (and not as powerful).

You want a complete list from top to bottom? That'd take a lot of info.

I guess I wanted to know about the gt40, explorer/cobra intake, and 303 cam combo and perhaps some other affordable combos. The Trick Flow 360 HP Twisted Wedge Top-End Engine Kits for Ford 5.0L - trickflow.com is a good one but costs like $2,600. I would like to be under that in price but maybe 300 or more engine hp or close to it. Any help and or personal experience is greatly appreciated.

i would suggest the trick flow top-end kit..it is pricey, but ive had luck with it

not sure of part names, but edelbroc has a top end parts for the 302, and they do well.

Does Holley still sell the Systemax kit - H/C/I all in one?

I think I am at 250 horse or so at the flywheel, maybe 275 not really sure. GT40 heads (or the P heads) and an Explorer intake can be done for $500 or so.

Really correct me if I'm wrong but I would think that with a e303 cam or equivalent you would have about 300 hp at the fly wheel.

I wanted to revisit this one. What kind of hp could I expect with a gt40, gt40p, or gt40x, and cobra or explorer intake with a 303 cam and maybe 1.6 or 1.7 with my given bolt ons. If its about 300 or more fly wheel I think I'll start buying these parts. Thanks for any input.

So if I'm at 240-245 hp now that means I would be at 285-310hp with that combo? If so that is pretty good could I get a Dyno tune (about 25hp) and then be at like 310-335hp? I hope so thanks for the response rlg34750.

I've got the Edelbrock Performer 5.0 heads, Cobra Intake and Cobra 1.7 Roller Rockers and am happy with the power increase. I didn't do the cam changeout becuase I didn't want to spend the extra money and have to worry about drivabilty issues (idling, etc.). I almost got AFR 165 heads since they seem to win the power shootouts in all the articles I've read, but they couldn't tell me what pushrod size to use. I liked Edlebrock becuase they are a true bolt-on and use the stock pushrod length and the rockers bolt right on with no shims required. Also I got a recomendation for the Edelbrocks from Joe P over at Mustang Magic Home Page.

With the gt40 hardware the car will probably make closer to 280-290 with a dynotune at the flywheel. It's a great way to start if your short on cash but don't expect to rip a similar car with trickflow, afr, edelbrock etc. hardware unless you catch a bad driver or someone with little traction.

Some great power, but the AOD is holding me back. As soon as I get thrown back into my seat when i am in my power band, i go into the next gear. I want to get a lentech street terminator valvebody so that I can correct this. Someone once told me that using a 5 speed computer would solve this, but alas, it has not. The car still pulls really hard up top, it puts a smile on my face .
