Here's my Dilemma. I found a really good deal on a Modified (Heavily) 1993 Mustang GT 5.0. Only problem is that it has a blown transmission. I was wondering if a transmission for a 1993 2.4L engine would work in the car, and for how long. Reason being, is that in order for me to get a loan for the car, the car has to be running. I need the transmission long enough for the vehicle to pass Safety and Emissions, So that I can get a loan for the car to get a new transmission (Looking at an upgraded transmission).
Main question. A) Would a 2.4L transmission work in the car? And B) If yes, for how long? Obviously, I wouldn't be driving it more than 2000 RPMs, so as far as safety and emissions, it should pass if it moves.
Haha, thank you. I found this site because I was wondering if it'd run well enough to pass Safety. The last transmission blew because the owner's put a lot of time and money into the Engine, so the transmission couldn't handle the power and the Clutch (I think) blew. Since it's an Automatic, that's be a huge pain to replace the Clutch. The transmission I'm looking at should be able to handle the power of the Engine. Also, I heard any transmission from 1982-1993 will work in that Model of car. Is that correct as well?
Automatic transmissions dont have a clutch, they have a torque converter which acts like a clutch to some degree. What kind of trans are you looking at?

A 2.3L (not 2.4L) T-5 manual transmission will work behind a 5.0L engine. The pilot bearing must be changed -- spec one from a mid '80s 2.2L diesel Ranger application. The torque rating is lower than the V8 version.
A 2.3L A4LD (it is not an AOD) automatic transmission will NOT work behind a 5.0L engine.

Haha, Thanks for the advice. I'm buying it from the guy who purchased it from the Original Owner (He got it at a car show from the guy) And the Original owner babied it. So it's in pretty good shape. And if anything goes out, I'm already planning to have money to replace it all.
