Question Tire Pressure on Drag Radials?

Well I sold my '88 GT convertible and made quite a bit more than I paid for it. So now I have money for mods to my '92. I ordered a set of 17" chrome Cobra wheels from American Muscle with the Nitto 275/40/17 drag radials. I have never ran drag radials on a car and I was wondering what is a good tire pressure to start at on the track? The suspension is more set for street cruising with FR variable rate springs, Tokico 5 way adj. shocks, and Hotchkins lower control arms...if it makes a difference.

Thanks for any imput!

Here's a good thread on that. I would start with 30 psi and just follow the thread even though it's about slicks. And when you do the burnout at the track avoid the burnout box water(aka go around it not through it).

Tire pressure will vary from day to day and track to track, even side to side. Start with 30 like he said and see how you do. If you spin, drop pressure 3 psi and try again. Keep going till you get improvement. If it pulls to the right, the right side needs air. Pulls to the left, the left side needs air. Low pressure will cause the rear to track to that side so be aware of that as well.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

Thanks for the info. I hope to make it to one of the last two test-n-tunes this month to try them out. I'll post how much I improve...hopefully alot.

Well after talking to several people at the track they laughed at me when I started at 30. I ended up getting the best hook-up at 8-10 pounds. But I am now really in need of a stall converter....the never ending search for more speed!

Nittos work well in the 12-15psi range. 8-10 is a little to low.

I tried at that range but without a stall I have to get them "chirping" at the line for the best results. I picked up .2 on the quarter compared to my street tires. Also discovered the rear end is going to need upgraded if I am going to run the drag radials. It did not fail, but now I have the one wheel only spin...which looks great in the burnout box.
