Default SPEC Clutch Chatter

I just got a new SPEC Stage 1 clutch kit. I have read around the forums and seen some things about the SPEC clutches having to be broken in. But I want to be sure that the chatter I'm having starting in 1st gear is normal. I'm also getting a little burnt clutch smell and some whining along with that chatter, so is this absolutely normal for this clutch? It's really a pain in the butt, but it does great other than from a stop in first gear. Thanks.

that is perfect normal for a spec clutch...

all of those things will stop after the initial break in period and re-adjustment....

What kind of mileage are we talkin about for the break in? Is the re-adjustment just the cable?

i believe spec recommends 500 miles for break in

and yes the re-adjust will be the cable and that will be if necessary

Like Reggie said, that's normal for a Spec clutch and the break in period is 500 miles.

While Reggie and Eagle are right about it being normal for SPEC clutches it is not normal for a Stage 1. The Stage 1 is their only organic disc material. Their higher stages are kevlar or carbon kevlar material and those are the ones prone to chatter in the beginning.

Are you sure you didn't get any grease or anything on the disc when you installed it?

You might try the old school way of breaking it in and that is a high rpm dump the clutch launch. Be sure there are no police around.

It works and back in the day, that was the easiest, quickest way to accomplish breakin and stop the chattering.

I agree, you're just seating the clutch with a 5000 rpm dump.
