Default oil in 92 5.0L

How many liters of oil does a 5.0L from a 92 GT hold? I can not find this info and what the dip stick is reading does not make sense.

Its 5 quarts. I have a 92 GT and when I put 5 quarts in and pull the dipstick it is very unacurate. The oil will be way above the full line on the dipstick. From what I have been told its pretty normal. Just make sure you drain both plugs and dont leave the old filter on either because it holds around a quart and its needs to be changed anyway.

I have the same problem right now. 3.5quarts and its full........im sort of hesitant to put in 5 quarts tho...definately dont want to cause a problem to my engine. but at the same time, i definately need the 5quarts in....hmmm should i put 5 in anyways?

Did you drain both sections of the oil pan when you changed the oil?

Question

yep and did the dilter change which then would require 5 quarts.

i e-mailed the previous owner and asked if he or a mechanic had ever tampered with the tubing that goes into the block. even if i take it out its probably too late to tell if it was cut down or not. i checked to make sure the dipstick matches the car....and it does...other then that maybe the dipstick is damaged from maybe being pushed too far

check the owners manual on the last page, it tells you exactly how much tranny fluid, oil and radiator fluid the car needs

Make sure your car is level...parallel to the ground. All stangs take 5 quarts. No doubt about it. Running on 3 is risking your engine goodbye. Good luck!

Yea I know the risks...certainly not going to run 3 quarts..

just trying to think of possibilities of why it reads full at 3quarts...

I did another oil change today myself and I drained out just under 5quarts of oil. Which tells me that the last oil chnage that the mechanic didn't drain both of the plugs. I put 5 Quarts, ran it shortly, checked the dipstick and its just above the full mark. I hear that its common to be out a bit out...or should I drain a bit of oil?
