My GT only is driven around town and even then, it sees limited hwy miles. I would say that I don't rod the car around town but I'm not exactly light on the throttle. The problem is that I've only put 1,000 miles on the car since I bought it back in May but I had the oil changed back in May, when I started using synthetic. It has been five months now and the oil is still fairly clean. Do you guys think it is safe to go 6 months on this oil if I am putting less than 3000 miles on it within that time frame? It is not that I am too cheap to change it or have it changed but the car simply wont be driven that much because of the city driving.

Thanks again, as usual for your time.
I had synthetic oil put in my 88 and all it did was leak from the valve covers.

You have bad valve cover gaskets then If your other oil didn't leak that proves the synthetic oil finds it ways in places standard oil doesn't also inside you engine.

Default Thanks for all of the help!!

Wow, I didn't expect to get so many replies. I do want to thank everyone that contributed to this post! I will go for a change here at the end of November and that will be a 6 month time span although it will only cover around 2000 miles of use. I will post an update as to how the oil looks when I get the change done. One thing that I did notice is that since I bought this car and started running synthetic (the previous owner ran Super Tec oil from Wal-Mart, ugh!!) the engine compression has gone up a bit. I know that it isn't just temperature as the pressure started going up last summer after the change and has stayed consistent all the way through now, which is November. I have an auto-meter gauge that gives me my oil pressure so I trust that over the factory gauge. Maybe synthetic is able to re-condition engine bearings to help restore oil pressure? Either way, I think the car runs better now.

The synthetic oil will get dirty just like the regular petrol oil so don't leave it in too long. Redline or maybe it was Amsoil made a claim of 25,000 to change the oil. I don't know about that one.

You can buy Mobil one synthetic at Costco. Costco just started to also sell Castrol Syntec.

Amsoil is supposed to have a 25,000 mile oil life. That is what I am running in my Fox and it seems to be doing great. After doing some reading, I guess Amsoil is the best synthetic on the market.
