He is doing well. They are keeping him quite busy out there. He is working 24 hours on and 24 hours off while the unit is training.

He is also doing alot of hiking, courtesy of Uncle Sam. When it takes his long legs 2 1/2 hours to get to the top, you know that is a really big hill!

Thanks again for the info!

Sorry, Reg! I will try to do better at that.... Things are just very crazy at this point.

Right now I am trying to get together the "final" (Ha Ha Ha) list of parts, so I can get the stuff ordered and shipped. I hate waiting on backordered parts to ship. It is a horrible waste of time.

I should be working on homework, but spending money always seems to take precidence.....

HEY GUYS!!!! Just thought I would stop in quick and say Hello! (That was just for you Reg.)

I am nearing the end of the "parts to order" list.

Magically, it keeps getting longer....thank you Baby!

I really believe that I am down to the last few major need to have items.

I will be spending the weekend, along with several good car buddies, putting as many of those parts on the car as humanly possible.

Wish me luck guys! I have never tried any of these parts swaps, soooooo it should be interesting.

For the record, Pete did get all the suspension parts he mentioned in an earlier post. The exception was the new A arms. I opted to go with new bushings and bypassed the A arms. Had we gone with coil overs, the A arms would have passed my test....LOL.

In the next few days, I will put together a list of all the stuff that went on.

Pete will be home for a long weekend starting next week, so I am trying to get as much put on as possible. I have to prove that I am not just admiring the new paint job......

I will let you guys know how well (or hard) the parts go on.

My biggest fear at this point is dinging up the new paint!!

Take care ya'll and I will catch you up soon.

H

Your silly

Don't forget to take pictures. Maybe take a before and after of the front end Ie, the rotors, shocks, wheel well area. Yes take pictures, and then take more pictures....

And while your doing that, I'll see if we need to add anything to the parts list

Default rubber

ok, Im greasing the skids and getting ready to order tires...

17x8 front 17x9 rear (wheels)

Wanna run this by you guys when I had my 91 I had 17x9 R's up front and went with a 245/45 tire and at times it tracked the road horribly, almost scary. The car was factory stock suspension wise. So with that being said, I'm in doubt as to go with a 245/45 or a 255/40 I think the 45 would be a little more merciful on bumps and ride ..or should i go a size narrower?your 0.02 plz

I'm going to go with Nitto D/R's right off the bat 275/40

Got started ripping all the front and rear suspension out today. For whatever reason, working on a car always involves a fiasco.

I thought I had gotten the lug lock back from the paint guy....so I tore the garage apart looking for it. No luck.

I called several auto parts stores...no luck there. I called our buddy, Robert, at the local Ford dealership cause he drives a notch, but he was busy.

So I broke out the hammer and a 7/8 in socket.

That worked for one locking lug nut, but then I couldn't get the stupid lug nut out..... . My buddy, Kirk, took the socket (with lug still stuck) back to his place and got them separated using a vise and a 1lb sledge. He brought them both back, but the same trick wouldn't work for any of the other locking lug nuts.

Finally my paint guy called me back and let me know that he found the lock nut at his shop, so I stopped beating up my sockets....GRRRRR!

As it sits right now, the struts, springs, front lower control arms, rack and pinion, and all things brakes are sitting in a pile in the corner of the garage.
In the rear, we got the drums, fuel tank, sway bar (with two snapped off bolts), and one of the 1/4 shocks off. Tomorrow the rest of the rear suspension will come out and I will drop the entire rear axle.

I am sitting on my heels right now cause the parts are still coming in. Ball joints were toast, so I had to order new front lower control arms this afternoon. They will be here Tuesday. This car is the first one that I have ever seen that can't just have the ball joints replaced. Every place I looked today said that the entire A arm had to be replaced for bad ball joints.....Stupid stupid stupid!!!!! I will order a new rear sway bar tomorrow, I guess.

Anyways, the car is sitting on 4 jack stands with towels laid over every surface greasy hands might rest. Both Kirk and Randy were walking on egg shells when they were holding tools anywhere near the car. Randy said, "Gotta be careful of the new skirt!" He is a nut!!!

Pete will be here next week for a visit, so we are going to rebuild the rear end together either Thursday or Friday. That should be interesting! I will put some pics up as soon as I can. Or I will send them to Pete and he can post them.

Your project seems to be coming together (or apart) pretty good! Hope to see it running sometime... Great pics so far! And BTW, nice job on keeping us updated. I love it when a plan comes together...

thanks Noble

Hey whats this rubber thing inside the spring

Well the wife managed to take the whole front including the rack and pinion off the car

And went on to the back and took that all apart also

And folks, here is yet again another pile of parts that most of them are now "homeless" and I have no use for lol

Good job baby....

I think the rubber "thing" inside the spring serves two functions.
1. Stops access vibrations, used for dampening.
2. Limiter : Prevents over-travel of the stock spring.

That's the way I understand it.

It's good to know that there might be a purpose to the ugly black thing in the middle of the spring....

I got done earlier today because we finally just ran out of things to remove from the car. My opinion is.... there is almost nothing left to remove if you don't count body panels.

Now the wait commences. The UPS guy didn't deliver anything yesterday, which was disappointing. The new A arms don't come in until Tuesday or Wednesday, and of course, there are the new gears and install kit, Auburn diff, 31 spline axle shafts, bushing kit etc etc etc. I should have it all by the end of the week. Everything has shipped but not yet received.

My hope is that all of the 5 lug conversion and suspension parts will be installed and complete, not next weekend, but the following weekend.

This will give time for Kenny to finish the engine and prep it to go in the car. Once that happens, i.e. the engine and tranny go in, there really isn't all that much hard labor left.

The ignition has to be placed and wired in. The ignition control box is going inside the car, probably in the glove box area. Battery relocation kit has to be wired in. Wiring harness has to be rerouted through the fender wells, and lengthened at certain points, I am certain. Of course, all the engine accessories and associated brackets will have to be reinstalled. New AC system, radiator, electric fan and electric water pump installed and wired.

This is a long list, but seriously, THE END IS IN SIGHT!AND IT IS A LONG TIME COMING!

For me, it really feels like things are coming together. Even though they had to be taken apart first.... This is like the downhill part of the race....HURRAY!!!

I have the 255/40 17's on my 93 GT and it tracks very well, when it's in alignment of course. But it didn't track very well when my left rear wheel & tire passed me last year....

when i ment tracking..I ment that it would find groves in the road normally on the highway, and "track" the groove very wildly and yeah it was usually a hairy ride at 60-70

i'm going to order the tires tommarow i think Ill go 255's though
