I have 3.73's and love them. It will shove you back in the seat! If you don't have good tires it will spin alot. The speed limit here in Arkansas is 55mph. I was turning around 1400 to 1500 with the stock gear. With 3.73's around 1800 at 55mph. I say go with 3.73 you will be happy will feel like a different car
A little info about your car would help with recomendations. Lots of knowledgeable people say to go with 4.10s on an AOD car. Most say 3.73s on a T5. I'm running 3.55s, but they were in the car when I bought it.

Agreed, let us know more about your car.
Auto- most go with 4.11's
5speed- either 3.55's or 3.73's. I would recomend 3.73's.

When I get gears for mine I'm considering either 3.73s or 3.91s.

I think I'm going to go with the 3.90 gears also. I hate that there is not speedo to correct the tach. I have been going back and forth between these two gears for months. I wish I could see a car race in the 1/4 with the same modifications between 4.10's, 3.73's, and 3.90's. That would answer the question I think every time it comes up. Videos anybody?

Yeah, when I told my dad I wanted 3.73's he said "well why not 3.91's?" and I couldn't think of a good reason why not. He had 3.91's in one of his old Mach 1's with a 351 Cleveland and shift kit and he said it would haul balls.

I'm having the same conflict about gears. I have the 5.0/AOD with mild mods but I drive on the highway alot so I can't decide between 3.55's or 3.73's. The stock gears just don't cut it anymore.

I used to have an 88 AOD with mass air because it was a California car with 3.55's. unless you plan on putting a blower or some power adder DO NOT GET THE 3.55's. I'm not just talking I couldn't even tell if I had gears. With the way the AOD transmission is set-up I would run 4.10's. Remember you have an overdrive or at least 3.73's. I let the guy at the gear shop talk me into getting 3.55's terrible mistake (imo). if you plan on going with a lot of horses are a power adder then 3.55's would be good.
With an AOD I wouldn't go any less than 3.91's (sorry if I sound repetitive). The stock auto matics are a little sluggish without lower gears. There are a lot of auto matic guys on here that would probably agree with me. 4.11's probably sound a little steep, but you might regret getting higher gears than that.
It's not fun to buy something for your car then wish you would have gotten the others. Just do some research and make your best decision.

It's from a great Mustang hi-po shop in Michigan, Alternative Automotive. Run by a sharp young guy named Lidio Ichabelli(?). In his previous life, he was a driveability engineer for Ford. Knows his stuff. He recommends the 4.10s for 5.0 AOD cars. He did a bunch of work for me on a Vortech supercharged '88GT I owned when I lived up there. Great work.
This is what he says about gears and AOD cars:
"Now, if your pony car has the 4 speed AOD it's a whole different ball game. The AOD is not the most responsive transmission Ford has ever made and it needs all the help it can get. For the AOD, 3.55's are simply not enough. 3.73's are a good choice for automatic cars and again, they don't hurt gas mileage very much and the car remains as streetable as it was from the factory, only it accelerates much better. 4.10's are also a good choice for automatic cars, and we prefer them. A 4.10 may sound extremely steep, but because the AOD's 1st gear is so high (numerically low) and 4th gear (overdrive) is steeper than the T-5 it's a very good choice for the driver interested in making their car perform better. "
But, after all that said, its your money and your car and your decision. I'm sure you'll like your better, whichever gear to decide to go with (as long as it's not a 3.55).
