I've been wondering this for a while... Can someone tell me why some only run 1/8 mile and others 1/4?

Im guessing you should run upper 13's to lower 14's. I dropped to 15 psi on street tires, not sure what you should do with DR's though. Good Luck with the 1/4 mile.

If you have a perfect lock and takeoff you'll run about 13.2
Keep your front tires at 35, drop the back to 32psi and make sure you don't run on a full tank of gas. I recommend showing up to the track with between a 1/4 - 1/3 tank of gas depending on how many runs you're going to do. In case it slips your mind, remove everything from the inside of your car that doesn't need to be there (IE spare tire, jack, random stuff in your trunk/glovebox/console, subwoofers etc).
Also, drain/flush all of the coolant out of the radiator and engine block then refill with distilled water and a bottle of Royal Purple's "Purple Ice", NO ANTI-FREEZE. I run only distilled water in my cooling system when I race but if you're nervous about your cooling system, the Purple Ice is the way to go. Water displaces heat faster than coolant and causes less drag on your water pump.
some only run the 1/8 because it is harder to win, think about all the times someone can drive around someone else when racing a 1/4 mile, you have to do everything right, you mess up, you lose, if your asking why some tracks are only 1/8, i'm not sure, maybe they didn't have the room for 1/4 mile track....

for most race cars you can multiply your 1/8 bty 1.57 to get your 1/4 time. not sure how it works with a street car but it should be close.that would put a 8.8 into a 13.81. my lightning ran 9.00 but it ran 13.69 so it didnt work for that.
If you run regular street tires you should have your front pair a little higher than the max recommended psi, and on the rear pair should stay at the factory recommended psi. When running street radials, the lower the psi, the worse your traction will be.

You're right on the money. One of the places I race is at a local stadium parking lot where an organization called Race Legal holds drag races on weekends throughout the year. The section of the parking lot that was allocated for Race Legal only allowed for an 1/8th mile strip, otherwise it'd be the standard 1/4 mile. Same goes for 3 other places I've raced in California.

Good enough for me. I was just curious.
I prefer the 1/4 mile still. 1/8 mile race just seems like it would go too quick, not as much of a rush. But I don't know since I've never just raced 1/8 mile.
Back to the original topic: Let us know what you run so one of us can brag about who was right!
