looking for new distributor: do I need to pay the MSD price?
Ive got a stock 86' distributor with a new cap and rotor but im thinking about upgrading. Ive been looking around and I cant find much info about anything but MSD. The other models just tell you theyre billet with hardened steel drive gears, can someone tell me what I should be looking for? I want to get a good deal and even though I know MSD is the best, I still want to shop around with other brands. Has anyone used any of the other brands with good results?

I use msd and its worth every penny, but also have use accel.Accel is a little cheaper but works just as well as msd ,not sure if they make a distributor.
performancedistributors.com here go see what they have don't be a dime a dozen car! they have great distributors & Screamin' Demon Coils that make MSD AND ACCEL seem like stock coils! hope this helps
You should stick with a stock unit or a rebuilt one. MSD distributors are known to have problems. There have been a few cars that I have worked on that didn't run, pulled the MSD out and slapped in a stock and it was fine. They just dont make good TFI distributors.

I can't speak for the others but when I went with the MSD, I had a steadier ignition signal, and the engine just overall ran better with it. It has an oversize sealed bearing as well, making it solid as a rock. When I pulled out the stock distributor, there was nothing wrong with it, but I noticed a difference when I cranked it with the MSD.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

I hear ya then, I was just looking to see if MSD was like this 190lph fuel pump I bought. I didnt know until I bought it that almost all fuel pumps are made by Walbro whether you buy a BBK or a store brand. Whats the point of spending a ton of money when all your buying is a name, but from what you guys say MSD is worth it. Thanks
