Default C4 vs. T5 questions

I am fixing to build a 347 stroker and i hoping to put out about 450 hp with another 150 hp shot on top of that. i am definetly going to need a tranny upgrade and am looking at about the same price to upgrade my current t5 or swap to a built c4. i was just wondering what you guys thought from a drag point of view and also still being fun to drive?

Well to be honest it is up to u its ur decision ur going to be driving it.

What kinda gears you gonna be running?

5 speed is goin to be more efficent on gas on the street.

C4 in my opinion if built right is goin to be more efficent on the strip.

Over all in my opinion I would go with C4 but thats just me but dont get me wrong I like a 5 spd on the street so im not sayin C4 cause I like it better I just like it better on the strip.

You goin to be N/A?

I have both but in different cars, the T-5 will not hold up to that much HP. It mostly depends on if you want manual or auto. The auto will help in consistency at the track, but the manual will be more fun on cruise nights. If you go auto make sure that you match the torque converter to your cam and the weight of your car.

From the drag point of view I would go with the C-4. I would also not go above a 3.73 rear gear so that it would be more drivable on the street. I have 4.11 in my car and going down the highway doing 65 mph, my tach is running about 4200, which really sucks for gas mileage. But like I said earlier that is where the manual would come in more handy, if you go manual look at the TKO.

i rarely drive on the highway i live less than a mile from work. so i was thinking 3.73 or 4.10. i like my five speed but i think for me the auto would be just as fun(with a manual valve body) considering i rarely use my fifth anyways. what do yall think based on this

well i have a 347....

before the new combo 572 at the wheels with a 100 shot

thats with a promotion built T5.....

with the new combo i'm expecting close to that on motor plus a least a 200 shot i have been told the tranny will handle it but i am looking for consistency which you will get with the c4

it really is a matter of preference.....

If gas mileage isn't a concern then I'd go with the C4 because it'd be just as fast as a manual, although the manual is more fun. But what's more fun, tooling around on the street with a clutch or sending other cars home on the trailer from the track?

W/ that much hp you will want 3.55's or you will be rapped out before you get to the end of the track!

If you're going to be primarily at the track with the car, I'd go with the C-4. A manual trans has the tendancy to rip the whole car apart when you're driving it like you stole it. The torque converter absorbs a lot of the shock to the drive train and chassis on launch. The manual trans tends to rip out torque boxes, rear gears, etc. over time due to the solid connection of the clutch thru the entire drive train. Plus the C-4 will be easier to be consistent.

Hey I aint got nothing against chevy's im just a ford man at heart and yeah alot of people say its cheaper to build a chevy but the mustangs are quiet a bit lighter compare the stock hoods of a 84 mustang and 84 camaro and tell me which one is lighter. Yeah you got your direction on the tranny now ponder on your gears and if you do go with the 3.73's you will be fine you wont tach out before you cross the line but if you do 3.55's or any higher gear I would maybe throw a little juice to er off the line . O and here in hick-town tn. people like the mustangs and put chevy motors in them.....they say and I quote " Ford Makes It Chevy Shakes It" now in my opinion thats just wrong lol!

I do not regret putting the C4 in my car. With the manual VB it is still like driving a stick and with a stall converter it is way more fun on the street. For gears I have 3.73's and with a 26" tire (MT DR 275/50R15) I was hitting the rev limiter on the top end so I went with a 28" tall tire (MT DR 275/60r15) and solved my problems and it hooks better with the larger sidewall. SO if you go 3.73's and its not right you can always change the tire instead of the gears.
