Default C4 or C5? How can I make it a c4?

I have an 1985 lx notchback and want to install a transmission that I bought from GER, in Pennsylvania 5 years ago. Long story short when I went to have it installed, mechanic said that it won't fit... The model number on the trans is RF-E2aP-7006-AA. I thought that all I had to do is change the bellhousing. GER went out of business some time ago and not really sure what to do. How can I make this trans work for my 1985 carb?

The only difference between the C-4 and the C-5 is the bellhousing is deeper because the C-5 has a bigger torque converter. Which makes the C-5 1 inche longer than the C-4. They are both 3 speed. The C-5 is a modified C-4 which was produced from 1981 to 1986 because C-4 was beening produced anymore. Maybe your mechanic wasn't to sure about the C-5 and didn't want to take a chance.

I knew it was a long time since I'd heard of GER. I still have a valvebody I got from them.
Check what Reggie gave you, that will probably help.
