1: sound, its louder without the tails when dumped te waves/tones will bounce between ground and under car which sounds loud which some people like.
2: you dont have to worry about taking tails off when changing parts/exhaust which we all know that its a pain and time issue taking tails off.
3: i was too lazy to put the tails on at the time so i left them off after the work was done lol

Pulled up to the light the other day and a 3 year old on his big wheel looked over at me and then at the light. I knew that it was on. The big wheel was hooked up, rims, sickers, ground FX, the works. Just before the light turned green the little ******* pointed to the NOS sicker on his machine and left a plasic patch that lasted about 100ft. I didn't stand a chance, I was smoked. He rasied his fist in victory and when home for milk and cookies, I just went to the track.
i have no tail pipes on mine. right after the muffler, it's cut. It's much louder that way. When I had to get my inspection, i had to put pipes on there. I would always be checking the RPM to make sure that it was still on because i was used to hearing a slight rumble. When I took them off I noticed a very very small difference (for the better). Personally I dont like to see pipes on the back. It also makes it look more like a "sleeper".
IF you have good tail pipes on there, i wouldnt go cut them off for performance. State inspections told me in TX (which is very relaxed) that I needed them on there.
As Streetstang84GT already said, whenever you work on the rear end of the car, you just undo the bolts and it's easily removed. It came in very handy when I put the lower controller arms in.
I have Turn downs on my car and I love em, You get that nice rumble and I havnt noticed any sort of exhaust smell at all. And It even passes California Smog

I ran my car for a while without tailpipes and it sounded very nice. I also live in Texas and they told me to put them on because it was unsafe to run without tailpipes. You will probably be fine but I would at least put dumps on to angle the exhaust away from the fuel tank. It cant possibly be good for your car to blow hot exhaust onto the fuel tank. This is just my opinion based on what I have been told.
My girlfriend actually hated my car more when I had the tailpipes off. It smelled like exhaust alot more inside and she couldn't talk to me very well because it was so much louder.
