Got a call from the machine shop today. Good news and really good news.
Good news: The block was warped .004 and they resurfaced it flat again. They are going to do a rough .030 bore because the number 6, 7, and 8 cylinders were .016 out of round... Heads were resurfaced and intake was surfaced to match up the ports. Valves are being cut to length so they are not too long for the stock length pushrods causing contact with a piston, thats never good.
Really good news: Nothing was cracked, broke or un-fixable. Block cleaned up nice. Heads are in good shape, next week and a half they will be putting all new components in.
Bad news: I am stuck here waiting to spend more money...good deal HAHA
that is good news.....
well if that money is burning a hole in your pocket
i will send you my "need to buy list".....

Just got a wake up call from the machine shop. Craig said that when they removed the valve guides, they found a split in the head.
Here is the deal. I don't have the 1500 for the alum heads, and I don't want to make extensive mods to my motor right at this time. There is no 5.0 mustangs around here that I can steal heads from so what else can I look at that has the same heads? Please and thank you.

Thumper sells modified E7 heads that have been milled, ported, and topped off with GT40 valve setup. Or you can just get the regular GT40 heads off ebay for pretty cheap. I would go that route.

I think I'm going to go with them Thumper heads. They look ok for what I am doing right now and mike seems to know what he is doing with the porting. I'm not expecting anything more than 235 hp or so even. I will look into better heads when fundage is knocking at the door.
But anyway I have a concern that just popped into my head. You all remember the low compression on the number 8 cylinder? Well I had a friend that had the same problem except it was a 355 chevy circle track motor, i know i know, but he had low compression on one cylinder and that caused the crank to get weak and break. Should I be concerned about this? I don't want to send a rod through the oil pan or a piston through the cylinder wall. What do you all think? Do you think my cast crank is allright? It's a stock crank...180000 miles of racing on it lol according to the previous owner....

MM&FF did a "Budget 5.0 rebuild" with the thumper heads and Cobra intake. I think they got 240 RWHP out of it after everything was said and done.

Well guys, Mike with Thumper said he is backed up 'till May. I guess I'm going to get those remanufactured heads for now. It'll be a while before I put big money into this thing. I should be getting my pistons in tomorrow. Then I'm heading to the machine shop so they can hone it to fit the pistons. After that, I'll get them put on the rods and take everything home and start building up this motor again. Pics coming within the next day or so.
Funny how this always starts. I am in the process of doing a HCI swap on my 94 GT. Well I found a oil leak at the rear of the oil pan, so the engine is coming out. So why its out why not bore it to a 306 and put forged internalls in for the supercharger I hope to get next year. Oh and then I need to replace the clutch since the motor will be out, and what about the K member....It is never ending.
HAHA yeah it gets funny. One thing always leads to another. But it's a good thing I took the motor out of I wouldn't have found that crack near the valve seat. HMM I guess since everything else is new on the car I might as well get a new power steering pump and them offset rack bushings in there. Wish I could afford the K-Member but oh well I'm not focused on not twisting the frame right now. I'm just about to say screw it and let the thing sit until I can get some aluminum heads. UGH so much comes to mind it's not even funny. The only thing that is original on this car is the interior and the rear axle housing itsself, besides the 3.73's and yukon axles.
