Any Suggestions? 4.6L Engine Swap, 1991 Mustang LX

So guys, check this out. If any of you noticed, I have a little 1991 LX hatch sitting around that I am not doing anything with. It's got the little 2.3L in it right now, no head, missing various other parts and pieces, and the body is straight as n arrow on it. No dents or anything like that. So I got my shipment today from Summit Racing, and my dad stumbled upon something quite unbelievable.

Summit FMC46L - Summit Ford 4.6L Modular Engine with 4R70W Automatic Transmission Combos – SummitRacing.com

Does this look like a pretty good deal for my little LX? I hate to see the thing sit and go to crap, and I'm just not a BIG fan of the 88 horse 4 banger. I think I might consider this after I get my 93 all back together. Another project! haha

bad idea, just buy a mustang with a 4.6 V8, would be much cheaper, I'd gut the 4 banger and sell or use it for parts

Why do you say it's a bad idea? I wouldn't do it half @$$ed, as for I am a perfectionist haha I got to have stuff done right or not at all. So everything would be in consideration.

Well, you'd basically have to replace everything on the car mechanically...and then what would you have? I don't get it...maybe you have alot of money and time and need a creative outlet, but other than that I don't get it...now a 427 powered notchback that runs 10s and is tubbed I get or a big turbo 4 would be cool, but a fairly run of the mill V8 that can be bought easily for the price of the motor/trans Explain...

Well I have seen many 4.6L 2V foxes around the state, I just wanted something different. I have 2 5.0's I am currently working on, and I just figured a mod motor in the little lx would be kinda cool. I can take my time, do everything right. Suspension, drivetrain, rear end, trans mounts, different k member, all the wiring and tubing, fuel system, brakes/front end mods. I think it would be fun. LOTS of work, but I love working on these Stangs, reguardless of year/components. It would only be another daily driver, so I wouldn't put anything into the motor. I just kinda like the sound of it. And with all the modifications needed, it could keep me busy for a long time and I need something like that around. I get bored too easy, wrench turnin has always been my "happy place" I guess you could say.

I agree with you Carter.....

it would be a fun project just because its different

be a cool car to show and cruise in.....

and when want to go fast jump in the 5.0 car.....

you could go one step further throw a cobra irs under the back end....

see i have given this a little thought.....

but i'd do it with a 4 eyed vert....

Thanks Reggie. I saw in HotRod Magazine they modd'ed up a 4 eye vert... the guy took the whole underside of the front end out! haha.. I guess doing that makes things a lot easier.

The idea of putting a mod motor in the poor little lx never hit me until dad mentioned a complete setup in the Summit on-sale brocure I got with my order....Thanks a lot, Dad. I just think he wants me to spend my lifetime savings on a 91 with 03 specs... HAHAHAAA

Now don't go calling yourselves old. I prefer.........more experienced. HA. Besides, your only 53! My dad is 62 and retired now, so he always helps out with the Mustangs. He had one of the first 64 1/2 Mustangs to roll off the truck back then. Sadly he wrecked it pretty good in 71. Car was a total loss but he walked away saying dam I won't do that again! haha. I'm going to change the timing belt in his Escort real quick tomorrow before I go to work on the 93. I think you and my dad would get along very well. He used to drag every weekend with his 64.5 until he went into the Navy...
