Default is the rebuild worth the money?

hey guys i was talking with my nieghbor last night about how i wanted to pretty much replace everything on the engine outside. like new intake valve covers all gaskets heads. basicly everything without going inside the engine. he asked if the engine has been rebuilt befor and i was told it was by the guy i bought it off of. he said it had 90k on it. my neighbor said then dont even bother rebuilding it if its got that many miles on it. he said it will soon start lossing compression bad and it will just be a big waste of money. what do you guys think? do they really start lossing compression that bad after 100k? thanks for the help

I think you should move to a better neighborhood there is a lot of bad info i there....

withe regard to losing compression there is always that chance with high a mileage engine ...

you say that engine had been rebuilt @ 90K so the mileage clock starts there.....

so based on that it is a low mileage engine

some engines when maintained properly mileage is not an issue

so what if it starts losing relatively speaking that is an easy fix.....

So ask your neighbor to leave, and get with replacing your gaskets......

If you have all intensions, of keeping the car for a long time. Then definetly rebuild, but do it right and go inside. Make sure you have, a reputable machine shop do the machine work. Slight bore, maybe 30 over, forged internals, line honed, new rod, main, and cam bearings. Take your time, and don't rush it you'll have a very healthy motor, Mike. SCT Tuner.

haha well reggie i think a lot of it has to do with people not liking the fact that im actually trying to do stuff and get my car to be really nice when they cant. everyone seems to think everything is a bad idea but anyways im glad to hear that that is low miles for that engine and it should be ok. i guess i should just stick with what i want to do and not take other peoples opionins that drive foreign cars.

and mike thanks for your input im going to see what i can do. i would really love to go into the entire thing. it would probably be the smartest thing to do. we'll see. thanks
