Wow, i got a GREAT deal today...found an 88 GT with a 5 spd for 800 bucks on craigslist...went and bought it...overheats when sitting in traffic, when moving it cools right off. Tranny doesnt like staying in 5th gear. body on the front end doesnt align right. Ill get some pics posted up tomorrow. Any advice on the tranny problem or the cooling issue is welcome. Ill get the specs for everything tomorrow, im headed to bed for the night

still deciding on that, since the front end is messed up I would have to swap all the front end parts from the LX over. For some reason it has the 85 MPH speedo in it, gonna check the VIN tonight and make sure it started out life as a GT and wasnt converted. I really bought it for the parts and I'm thinking I'll probably swap everything to the LX and work my way around to swapping the 2.3l into the GT sometime in the late future so my daughter will have a stang to drive once she gets her liscense without worrying about her having too much power. change the hatches and hoods around, get the body work done on the LX and be good to go with that one so i have more time to work through the GT issues.

lol I like the LX body style more than the GT ground effects...and my daughter is in love with mustangs so i figure give her a repaired GT with a 4 banger in it and she'll be happy as a pig in mud

Don't say that too loud the GT guys are almost as sensitive as SN95 crowd....

Ill just blame you for getting me hooked on the LX vice GT lol. I've even thought about fabricating a fog light piece for the LX bumper...if i end up doing something like that I'm removing the GT's fx and filling the holes for an LX look hahaha.

OK, quite a few pictures to post...so here goes.
-You'll notice the only body damage is a quarter sized dent in the passenger side quarter panel and the front end.
-Up close pic of the reason front end is screwy
-a few pics of the pristine interior (only thing wrong with the interior is the small hole in the drivers seat and the broken ash tray cover!).
-Passenger side door doesnt open all the way cause its pinched behind the fender just a little bit.

Lemme know what ya think btw, i started it up when i got home, popped the hood....and the fan isnt moving even though it should be. so I'm guessing offhand thats my cooling issue. The guy driving home behind me yesterday said when i got on it there was a little blue smoke, and its got a wierd smell so one of my budies with a 5.0 is coming over later to check it prolly. i'm hoping thats just the exhaust breaking in since thats the only reciept that didnt come with the car lol.

if you need a good clutch for the fan i have a spare that i replaced with a new one nothing is wrong with it, think i still have the box if your interested

yah, cant really beat it lol. looked into the fan issue some more and found out its binding up on the fan shroud from where the front end is a little twisted. its an old factory fan anyways. Question: i looked at the intake and it has a MAF which isnt supposed to be on the early 88's...checked the computer and it says A9L...is that the right computer? Looked closely at the block and its painted ford blue so I'm guessing someone popped a different engine in there at some point...bonus for me!

I'm probably gonna put an electric fan in once i start working on it. I wont be driving this one for a while. Tune up, find out why it sounds like metal rubbing when i start moving in 1st gear, make sure the block is good and redo the seals if the smoke issue turns out to be that problem, higher amp alternator, mostly easy stuff just takes some time. It came with an extra transmission so i'll probalby just end up rebuilding the extra and dropping it in. The guy i got it form said it has 3.93 gears in it..which didnt make any sense to me but he insisted thats what they were, so ill be taking the rearend apart and putting 3.73 in.

I started it when i got home today to look at some stuff...and when i shut it off it wont even attempt to turn over. Turns out there's an alarm system installed that no one knew about and i think its got some sort of cut out for the ignition, so i get to look at wiring issues tomorrow.
