I've never really cared for the Viper... Yeah, it's fast but I think they are ugly. If someone was going to let me drive theirs or give one to me for free, then sure I'd take it. The NEW Vettes I like a lot, I think they look sporty. I never said I wouldn't drive a Chevy, or Dodge, I do drive a '75 Chevy pickup.
Only recently did Nascar switch to the COT, where they all use the same body... But they still use a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota engine. So it's still a battle of the brands...
And the Mustang was never meant to compete against the Corvette, in fact, the first T-Bird was Ford's answer to the Corvette. The Camaro was made by Chevy to compete against the Mustang. And like you said, most of the time Chevy came out with more power. But not always.
Let's get back to the "Brand Loyalty" thing... Like I said, competition sells. And if you think about it, if it wasn't for brand loyalty and each company trying to out-perform the other then the car racing world would be completely different. If it wasn't for "Brand Loyalty" then would the Mustang have lasted like it has? and the Camaro never would have been discontinued then remade.
I see where you're coming from Rich, you make a good point. I'm just trying to point out why "brand loyalty" is a good thing. Think about it this way... Do you like Coke or Pepsi better? (I love Pepsi, but I'll drink Coke if I can't find a Pepsi) Or who is your favorite sports team? (I'm a big Nebraska football fan, even though I live in Norman, OK)
First off, let me be clear here and say...302Feen...you're alright in my book brother and if you were closer to me, I'd buy you a beer (unlike Reggie, who cut me off because of my point of view in this thread.. )
Now, since I still haven't figured out how to quote and respond like you just did, I'll have to do it this way.....
The whole Nascar thing didn't just start with the COT. It started waaaayyyy back in the '70's when Nascar started getting crazy with the rules and the cars started becoming more than "what a person could buy on a Monday morning after watching the race on Sunday".
To me, the Nascar "card" is a whole nother discussion. Hell, even the Toyota's are using modified Chevy blocks.
I know the Mustang was never meant to compete against the Vette( and it's a good thing but it would look even more ridiculous trying to run against the Vette than it does against the Camaro). MY whole point to my last post was to say that all the makers are putting out cars that I seriously doubt anyone on this board can deny, they would love to have, in a heartbeat. The new Z06, the new Viper RT's or even the new Mustang Cobra's. The "brand loyalty" thing get's old when people start saying they wouldn't drive a Chevy because it's a Chevy. No other reason, other than it has a bowtie on the grille. That's is just retarded in my book.
Look, I love my Mustang and even if I could afford to own a Vette, I'd still have a Mustang in the garage next to it, just don't tell me that you (not necessarily you 302Feen, everyone in general) wouldn't drive a particular brand of vehicle just because it is "that brand". Now if it's rice, then that's different.
Go with PI heads and quit watching The Fast and the Furious. (thanks 2 IhaveadopeGT)
Remember, it is almost impossible for anyone, myself included, to diagnose a problem over the internet without seeing the car. My advice is simply that, advice based on years of experience. I don't want you or anyone taking my word as gospel. I am trying to give some direction as to what I think may be happening.

Well we had patched things up until i realized you will drink with a SN95 owner.....
But if you are buying it still all good....

Sorry for the smart allec remark guys about the Chevy motor. I do agree that Chevys can be prety nice, but I prefer a Mustang with a ford motor. I am really considering getting a 69 Camaro ss with a 350 and some cheap good parts...just because I LOVE the old Camaro body style.... My Blood has always ran blue though..........

I've been reading the discussion here and I have to offer this point:
I don't consider myself "brand loyal", as I enjoy any car that is sexy and powerful. However, I do consider myself a purist: Ford in Ford, Chevy in Chevy, even Mitsubishi in Mitsubishi. If I like a car, it's for the total package: body style & motor. So, I think a Chevy block in a Ford is stupid; but that's my opinion.
That being said, my ideal garage would have a Dodge Viper, Terminator Cobra, and an Mitsu Evo X. OK, so probably a few more Mustangs...
And Reggie, haven't met you formally, but I've come to respect your advice/expertise. So don't hate me cuz I have an SN95...

To me, the Nascar "card" is a whole nother discussion. Hell, even the Toyota's are using modified Chevy blocks.
My NASCAR example was just that... an example... I'm was pointing out that if it wasn't for brand loyalty, then there would be no NASCAR. And our beloved world of drag racing would either be completely different or non existant. Back in the "Muscle Car Era", car manufacturers were trying to make their cars faster and better than the others. This is what brought upon the Mustangs, Camaro's, Challenger's, etc. And it's also what kept them around. Each car had it's appeal to each individual, which evolves into "brand loyalty".
I know the Mustang was never meant to compete against the Vette( and it's a good thing but it would look even more ridiculous trying to run against the Vette than it does against the Camaro). "Brand Loyalty" shows it's purpose when you look at all these new "Muscle Cars" that are coming back from the dead. Such as the Challenger and Camaro (the Charger doesn't count because it's just a four door car with a big engine that they just slapped a "Charger" emblem on). "Brand Loyalty" is also what has kept the Mustang going strong for 45 years, it's also the reason why Chevy discontinued the Camaro and is now remaking it.
I also bleed Ford Blue. I even have a vintage Ford V8 symbol tattoo on my right shoulder, but that is mostly just a tribute to the 1934 Ford me and my dad rebuilt together. If I had the money, I would definitely be getting one of these new Camaro's because I think they look mean as hell!
I'm not necessarily saying that "brand loyalty" is a GOOD thing, but without it then the car world would be completely different than it is today...

Not just in your book, I say the same thing. I'd have any of those cars and be proud of them, I just happen to like ALL American cars. Where I would come close to that way of thinking is foreign vs American cars.

We can all wish. The LS is just a detuned race engine, and if I'm not mistaken, I think Warren Johnson had a hand in helping design it.

I completely understand and respect your point/opinion. I think my point got lost in translation. I undertand the impact Nascar had on car sales back in the day, except nowadays, like I said, you can't tell one from another and even Toyota uses a modified bowtie motor.
I also understand that "brand loyalty" is what kept the manufacturers "one upping" each other (although I still stand firm in my belief that Chevy and it's LS has a distinct advantage over Ford).
My whole point, once again, is my lack of respect for those who won't drive a certain brand because it is a certain brand.
PS.....Jack and coke it is.....I would be willing to bet you, me and Reggie would have a hell of a good time sitting down together and putting away a few drinks.

I have a friend that collects BMWs and he hates fords with a passion always asks me why I have 2 fox mustangs and a ford p/u.. well one day he kept bragging about how fast his e36 m3 was and it could waste my slowstang* as he deemed it... needless to say hes been for a ride in the car but not went for a good ride! so i told him hey man lets go for a quick one just got done with doing intake gaskets.. so he did and we went about 3 miles out of town and let her rip through the first 3 gears to about 70! all he had to say was I dident expect this thing to have that kinda power as he giggled with content !!! now he wants spare 306 on my shop floor for his bmw 318 would be a great project i think totally screw up the weight distribution but oh well .. he also has 2 chevy trucks a 85 and a 03 duramax with the banks tuner.. but i love ls engines i plan on building a 80's camaro with a 5.3 truck engine can get the 5.3 vortec engines for about $200 with 150K miles they are not in high demand yet and are also abundant
HAHAHA! You two are funny! And I'll be sure to stay off Reggie's grass.
Yeah, he's got a water hose and isn't afraid to use it!
