So I was driving around lost today and bumped into a Mustang shop. Bunch of cool stangs outside. Asked about paint. Said he didn't do that in house. Refered me to another shop. They wouldn't give me an official estimate but it was going to be around $2,500 to $ 3,000, and might go up to $4,000 to $5,000 after bodywork.
paint jobs are very expensive. and if i was you i wouldnt spend more then the worth of my car on a paint job...if it ends up costing 5k...
i got my car painted by earl shieb and it looks great, of course there is some orange peel, but overall i was very happy and i have gotten many compliments on it. plus it was only 400 dollars with a 3 year warrenty.
before going that route though make sure you look at a couple of cars they do first.
ps. have you gotten your car a good buffing first?

What do you guys think about this quote?
Has anybody had their car painted?
How much did it cost?
Thanks.
that's about the gone range for a High Quality paint job. I was starting at $4000 and go up from there we would take the whole car apart paint the jambs and under the hood.under the hatch/trunk lid fix all the body work (EXTRA) take the bumpers off then when it was done we would wet sand and buff the whole car. you pick the color black is (EXTRA) and any wild colors could cost more. sounds like a lot of coin and it is but striping the car down to bare metal and taking everything off then putting it back together and buffed is LOTS of hard work and good paint is not cheap at all.

I got mine done at Maaco last year for $1000. They tried to swindle me. Said it would only take a week. It took over a month. They painted my fog lamps and mirrors, crushed the bottom of my pass. door on their lift, and tried to give back to me covered in dirt and bird poop. It was like they had been sporting my car around town.
I was livid. They tried to tell me the deep dent was there before I brought it in. I told them I took pics of my car before I brought it in and thoroughly examined it. Finally, the sales guy who was obviously their top body guy agreed to take it back and repair his coworkers' mistakes.
Took a long time but in the end it turned out pretty well in my opinion. Not the best but hey I like the way it looks and I get a lot of compliments.
I paid $2500 for mine. That is the average price for a good paint job.
Now if you are looking at changing colors and doing it right you're talking about a lot of money. But to repaint it the same color and fix the dents... $2500 is about average....

A good paint job will cost, this is where you get what you pay for. If you get a $500 paint job, expect a $500 paint job and not a $2000 job. The key to a good job is in the body work. If you're confident you can strip it properly and perform the body work yourself, and prime it (not all primers are the same), then you'll save a lot of money because that's where the majority of the cost is. Then you'll have to consider the paint itself, what kind of quality you want. Better quality, better paint.
In other words, that estimate sounds about right.

Well the body work I can't do myself, but I can sand it down and prime it. I might remove the lights, lower GT stuff and rear spoiler. This should save some shop time.
Its hard to give away parts, and if you do sell it its like 20$
paid 50$ for alternator, all brackets on front of 5.0, tensioner, smog pump, a/c, harmonic balancer, all bolts and everything
sounds crazy --but i painted my own car in a shelter logic tent that i bought in bj's wholesale. i think i paid 300.00 for it and now i have an extra garage for stuff. i bought a book about painting a car and read it twice from cover to cover. it was a ton of help. i bought paint off of e-bay (bacecoat/clearcoat) for 200.00. it was great paint and the company i bought it off was very helpfull. i took my time and did all the bodywork including shaving off the radio antenna. i shot the car on a weekend. i taped everything off on a friday and sprayed the whole car on a saturday. sunday i think i just starred at it. i could not believe how easy it was. if you have any questions about it dont even hesitate to ask. i took a ton of pictures too.
