Default 1990 Mustang lx 5.0 help ?

hi, new here but need a little help please,
i cleaned the engine and i have back firing out of the exhaust and the
exhaust smells like the car is running rich. it was fine before i cleaned it.any ideas that i can check would very helpful. thanx

You probably got water in the distributor cap, take it off and blow it out with some air. Should fix your problem. Let us know.

I checked that it was dry.i changed the rotor and the cap also the plugs this morning still doing it but running abit smoother now

There is most likely an electrical connection that got wet and needs to dry out. I had that problem and it was the wiring that plugged into the distributor. The wires were loose and allowed moisture to get in and interrupt the electronics. Since it's backfiring, you should inspect all wires concerning the distributor module.
