Not really, but I might as well had stole it...
Called up the local junkyard today, and asked about any V8 exploders they had sitting around. They had a 96 model and this is what I got from it. $200 and they pulled it and loaded it. It has the old style GT-40 heads but from what I have read, there is not that much of a difference in performace than the "P"s. The ford dealership scraped the truck a couple years ago because they thought the engine had locked up. Turns out the AOD-E transmission was locked up and the engine was good.

fixed the pictures to attachments.

The P heads have a slight, and I mean slight advantage. Its in the castings of the heads, and the Spark plug position.

At the most 5hp difference with the P's out front. Not anything worth having to fight around the Headers and spark plugs.

Im not sure if I want to crack it open and build it up... OR stick it in the car to drive, and build the mustang shortblock up that came in the car, then swap the top end onto the fresh block. But it all depends on whether or not I can get the engine to turn over and run after two years of sitting with out being cranked. The outside is very clean though.

I was thinking this to be true after all of the reading I have done. The "P" heads were NOT worth turning down this deal. I would rather save the money that I already saved by getting this setup. Now I can get some gears.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I thought it was an awesome deal for such a semi-rare engine. I went to four other salvage yards before I found this one.

Do ya'll have any good tricks for freeing up a stiff engine that has been sitting for a while?

You can take the plugs out and shoot a bit of oil in there, that'll lubricate the rings.
I'd say pull the distributor and prime the oil pump. That things HAS to be dry if it's sat that long.

Thanks for fixing my pics eagle. I think I will try a combination of fresh oil and a primed pump before cranking, along with some mystery oil in all the cylinders.

Anybody ever heard of putting iodine in the cylinders? Guy at the junkyard said that I might try that.

Going to swap the mustang accessory system on the engine, and try to get it the turn over by hand tomorrow. Had to do yard work today, which made me more anxious.

I may go ahead and put the TF vavlespring upgrade kit and 1.6 roller rockers on it too. Just to have it out of the way when I get ready to swap over to the rebuilt bottom end.

why did ford use the 5.0 in the 96 explorer's but the 4.6 in the mustang?

Good question. It probably has something to do with ford being cheap and not wanting to spend the money on r&d to put the 4.6 in. The 5.0 was likely cheaper to build and maintain also.
