anyone know what i should do here. I have 302 with forged pistons gt40 heads and a few other things. i have a mutha thumpr cam and i am not happy with it i feel like it is just all talk no action and am looking for another one to put in it. any sugestions
The thumper cams really are all bark without much bite, at least compared to other roller cams. I'd stick with comp cams though, try looking at the Xtreme Energy and Magnum lines. The Xtreme Energy will make a bit more power, usually, from steeper ramp profiles and more lift, but the Magnums seem like they're a little easier on the other valvetrain components for daily driving.
As for lift and duration to go with, I really need to know more about the engine setup and that of the car as a whole, but just based on what you've said, I'd recommend the Magnum 270 or the Xtreme Energy 268 or 272.
allright thank you a lot the car is still fuel injection with stock intake, looking for a new one, the heads are ported, it is stock bore on cylinders with forged pistons and rods and forged crank, the heads have bee hive valve springs with keepers and retainers to match the cam
Once you get that new intake on there, you can probably go a couple degrees bigger on the cam duration than the two I previously listed. I strongly recommend downloading CamQuest from Comp Cams website, it will help a lot with cam selection.
I would suggest this one, based on you using stock heads. Even though you say they're ported, they're still considered "stock" heads. Also because you say it's with a stock bore as well, this would work for you.
Make sure those springs will accommodate this cam.

The cam that Eagle recommended is the one that I am currently using in my 306. It definitely needs mods like an intake and full exhaust to really shine though, heads would be good to. It's also a pain to drive with any gear ratio less than 3.55:1.
If you have the supporting mods though, it's a great cam; starts making really good power at about 3000rpm and pulls hard as high as I ever took it at 7300rpm. And because it doesn't have a whole lot of lift compared to most roller cams, it will work with most any valvesprings.
