If you do not know when the fluid was last changed it would be a good idea to change it out. To drain it: On the passenger side you will see two plugs. Take the bottom plug out using a rachet w/ out a socket. Let the fluid drain out and put the plug back in.

Now to fill it you have two options. You can take the top plug out and with a hose squeeze the new fluid inside. Or the sometimes easier way take the shifter off and poor it in the opening. The T5 should take approx. 2 3/4 quarts of fluid.

To check the level take the top plug off and put your finger inside. You should be about level with the opening.

Good luck!

you use auto trans fluid. i think type f.

to check the fluid level, you take the top bolt out of the side as described above and you should feel the fluid with your finger.

my transmission takes dex/merc on my 5.0 and be careful not to mix up the bolt for the reverse lever with the sight plug the sight plug uses a 3/8 square drive (the drive on a ratchet will fit right in)

I thought you are supposed to use like a 80-90 gear lube in a manuel trans?

The T-5 was built for fuel economy. They designed it to run on thin ATF rather than thick gear oil because it will turn easier and therefore use less fuel. If you decide to use gear oil I do believe the small clearances in the T-5 will not let the thick stuff in and you will screw it up. T-5 = ATF.

I've have over 150,000 miles on my t45 in my cobra, it's never had an oil change and it works perfectly...unless you have a problem with your trans, I'm not sure I'd start changing anything
