I've been leaking ATF for a while and finally decided to take care of it. I took a quick look and saw that it was coming from the front by the engine so I figured it was the seal behind the torque converter. Went to the store. Bought the seal. Jacked up the car. Once I got under it and took a good look..., everything was wet. There was fliud dropping from the power steering pump, front main, rear main,
tranny pan,
trans dipstick on the transmission side. I couldn't tell where the ATF was really leaking from! So I spent a few hours cleaning the power steering pump, oil pan,
trans pan, lines, etc. Turns out EVERY bolt was loose on the
trans pan, the lines were loose on the power steering and all the other stuff was just residue. So I tightened everything down and everything looks good so far.
BTW: I went to the shop here in town to see how much he would charge for a front pump seal. He quoted me 6 hours of labor, plus fluids and supplies equaling over $500. I wonder if he would have been honest enough to let me off with the tightening of a few things and a couple hours of labor?
