hey guys im new to this website. i have a friend that talks the world about his car and i want to beat him, my car is stock i am currently putting a explorer intake, 373 gears, and a mac x pipe that i found on craigslist, but idk why mac doesnt make the x pipe anymore so ill try it. do you guys think i can get him, his car is all stock with 211k miles on it let me know what you guys think ,
Sorry but you will not win this one. Is his car stick or auto? Stick LS1s put out around 300hp to the wheels and run mid to high 13s with 105+mph trap speeds. A few in cool weather have even run 12's with excellent drivers and great air.
Stock 5.0s run mid 14s to low 15s with a small number of LX 5.0s running high 13s with increased timing, short belt, no air silencer and sway bar removed. But the 13s are for excellent drivers and happened when the car was new not 20 years old in a questionable state of tune.
WIth driver error anything can happen but with things being around even he will pull on you easily especially because you are pretty much stock. I would think the exhaust and intake will add 10-15hp? and the gears will pick up 2-3 tenths you are still gonna be behind.
Some things you can do to add some power
1.Timing to 12-14 degrees
2.Yank out air silencer add K&N panel filter
3.Tune up (plugs, wires, rotor)
The above are free or routine mainteance.
Then again with 200K miles on his car who knows what state of tune it is in. But if each car is running as it should LS1 wins.

ok he has an auto and i have a 5 speed should i put a cold air and 70mm throttle body should that bring me that much closer to getting him. should i get rid of the mac x pipe. and get the prochamber. i plan on getting mac eaqual lengths.
I think your car came with forged pistons, you want to beat him and that's it? Nitrous. Keep upping the jets and racing him until you blow your engine. Then built it right.
exhaust isn't gong to do much for a stock 5.0. If anything it might take away torque down low where you want it for the street. If your going to beat him your going to have to do a full hci at minimum. Or some type of forced induction.
I've raced an ls1 camaro in my 95 cobra and barely stayed even with him when he could barely drive it. I was basically catching up to him between his shifts.

I doubt seriously you would gain a second.....
The reason i say that is there no mention of upgrading the suspension or tires....
The addition of the 3.73's will compound the traction problem already common to these cars......
