Question Stock 302 to stroker help.

1979 mustang with a stock 302. I'm ready to start building but need advise with a stroker kit. I would prefer not to bore?

How big of a stroker do you want......

will you be using your stock block.....

are there any plans for a power adder......

will this be a EFI or Carb application....

what will be the primary use of the car.....

and what is the budget for the build......

if you're using the stock block from your car it is highly advised to bore .030 because the walls in the block will become oddly shaped overtime. i would recommend fordstrokers.com, and go for a 28oz balance. my preference is the 331 because i prefer higher revs.

Just curious why dual carbs

those will be a tuning nightmare especially on a street car.....

I would like to keep it a carb and do not want to fork over the money for a blower. Figured dual would give best performance in that situation. What would you think?

Why do you say 331's rev higher.....

But before this goes into a deep debate

what do you consider high revs....

going carb is ok......

trust me one is enough.......

the thing to remember is.....

Its the sum of all parts that make horsepower not one component.....

Exactly...I'm having trouble matching my engine internals. I would like 400-500hp?

400-500 HP is achiveable....

But in your case i'd consider going with a power adder (IE supercharger)......

A 500 hp N/A engine will require high compression & a radical head, cam combo....

Which will make street driving a adventure......

Also you will be getting in area that almost dictates a aftermarket block.....

You had mention you are on a budget from experience what you want to build....

Budget is not a word that can be used.......

my recommendation would be set your goals a little lower and start there.......

I'm sure this is not something you want to hear but it is a harsh reality......

You recommend fordstrokers.com. Then in the same sentence you would pick a 331 over a 347. You need to talk to woody personally. Im sure he would recommend the 347 over the 331. Unless the customer insists on a 331. A 347 has the same rev capabilities as a 331. Plus more power.

I'll echo what these guys have said. There's plenty of other stroker suppliers that you could scope out and compare.

I talked to woody over at fordstrokers.com about my 302 out of my 83 mustang he said a 347 is a fine choice to go with espcially for a street car my block like your is not a roller so I might be purchasing a roller block from fordstrokers.com he only rates the stock blocks he machines and preps to about 550hp...so if your planning on running a blower I would definetly consider a aftermarker block though they are really pricy which is why I'm not running boost on mine I can't afford a $2000 dart or world block so 400-500 horses N/A will do just fine but in the end its what you want just remember you cant have your cake and eat it too your going to have to find a happy medium trust me I know been there done that

What would be the ideal "bore" for the 347 stroke?

A .030 overbore is the normal. There is a big bore 347, but requires an aftermarket block.
