Default question on brakes.

i was fllippin thru an old MMandFF mag the other day and started reading the "stolen goods" buildup again.

i really want to run the same baer 4-disc setup (6S with 14" front/ 2 piston with 12" rear) they used on the 93 cobra. it came with ALL the essentials to convert to 5-lug, and even incuded a new master cylinder.

i have 2 questions.
1---its expensive. is it worth it? they will be on a street car, but i do local autocross races, some drifting and a bunch of "fun" driving on winding country roads..something better is needed.
2---will it work with a 17" wheel? it looks like an 18" wheel is needed, but could i downsize to a 13" caliper and make it work?

Yes, the Baer stuff is expensive. I would have liked to have put them on my car, but was way more than I was looking to spend. I went with the SN95 Cobra brakes and can say they are a huge improvement over the stock brakes. I would think if you did the M-2300-K kit, possibly some more agressive pads, and maybe some cooling ducts would probably get you what you want.

The 14" brakes will require a 18" wheel, 13" is as big as you can go on a 17" wheel.

Brakes are worth the cost, you'll know the first time stock brakes fade and you taste the upholstery from the wrong end.
14" rotors are HUGE, just call them manhole covers. For 14's, you'll have to go up to at least 18" wheels. For 17's, downgrade to the 13" rotors. 13's are more than enough unless this is a dedicated road race car.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

--ive tasted uphostery..wrapped a 92 wild strawberry lx around a tree, got rear-ended in a 10th ann. cobra, and had a blowout in my 06 going 95+....i never thought the term "needing a new pair of underwear" could be taken so literally...

--the 6S caliper is pretty large, and covers alot of the 14" rotor. is it compatible with a 13" rotor, or will i need to get something smaller like the T4 4-piston caliper?

i wanted the 6S's up front, and the T4's out back using eradispeed plus rotors

also..i dont mind running an 18" wheel...will the steeda pentar wheels work? i think they would look bitchin' on a fox http://static.zoovy.com/img/stage3mo...ver_18_500.jpg

i did some research, but i thought i would share.

the 6P is used on "baer-claw pro" packaging...its nearly identical to the 6S caliper and uses a 13" or 14" rotor (the 6S needs a 13.5" rotor or larger).. the T4 is a 4 piston design that uses a 12" or 13" rotor. its intended to be a front caliper, and not for the rear.

im looking at the pro-plus kit. it has the 6P calipers front and rear, though the rear calipers are internally smaller (6 pistons, and same looks) it will have 13" rotors up front, and 12" rotors in the rear.

(all four rotors are cross drilled and slotted, 2-piece, zinc washed rotors and the kit uses the same pads as the C6 ZO6 and ZR1 use from the factory)

this is a kit that is listed as street/track, but i think it will be slight overkill at the moment...but i like it
