Default Ford Racing 302 vs Dart Iron Eagle

Is there a significant strength difference between a ford racing boss 302, a dart 302 sportsman, or a world man-o-war... Reggie I know you have an opinion about this since you have a dart so please let me know

I don't think there is much difference with the Ford or Dart sportsman in strength. I think the world would be stronger and I think the Dart Iron Eagle would better also. I have a R-Block and a Dart Iron Eagle you can see the difference in the blocks just looking at them but at the same time I wont brake the R-block the only reason I got the Iron Eagle over the sportsman was I got a deal on a used one. So save your self a buck and get the Sportsman unless you plan over 1400 HP

not planning on over 600 horses but it could be a possibility in the future...so with that being said. Dart makes 2 blocks I'm currently looking...at the Sportsman as mentioned above and the SHP Ford Small blocks not sure about the difference in the block but defiantly sure about the price difference can anybody tell me the difference in the block?

I have an Dart iron eagle which gets from me

I'm not big fan of the Boss 302 block due to some inherent desighn issue regarding the bore......

I too got my iron eagle because i got a great deal......

orginally was going with the dart sportsman.....

world makes a good block also

choosing between dart & world would be a matter of preference......

The Iron Eagle and Man-O-War are the toughest block you can get. There's blocks with 4 bolt mains on just #2, 3, and 4 but only 2 bolts on the #1 and #5 mains, I think the Ford block is like that. The stronger blocks have 4 bolt mains on all 5 mains, that's just one difference to look for.

there pretty pricey on the dart and world website I've been looking on there for sometime now what do you think the chances are a local machine shop might have a use one laying around

and what is the difference between the SHP dart block and the iron eagle

again I'm not looking to make 600 horses I just want to build a engine that I know is done right and is built rock solid

I've talked to the people over at fordstrokers and they told me a 347 N/A with a stock block @6500RPM will be fine I just want to know that my bottom end is not going to blow apart and my time and money is not wasted

Not likely... as soon as they become available they're snatched up. Not likely one will be lying around unused.
If you want quality, you're going to have to pay for it. Don't expect to get it for just a hundred bucks or so, that isn't going to happen. Even an used block will be near $1000 due to the demand and quality of the block.

http://www.adperformance.com/ about the best price around on blocks and lots of other stuff too. or just move over to a 351 you pick up the extra CID and the blocks are much better. but you have to get a new lower intake and oil pan and distributor. but they leave more room for even more CID.

I know whatcha mean. And don't take what I said as belittling or anything like that, I didn't mean it that way. I've seen people get upset because they can't find a super expensive part like some AFR heads or something similar for near nothing.
$1000 is the cheapest I've seen a Dart block for and that was well used.

None taken Eagle...I apperciate the advice you guys give me very much...I have come to see that good parts are expensive and that in the end you get what you pay for. Which is why I'm so up in the air about what to do with my motor. I would like to use a stock block like woody offers at fordstrokers.com but I would like to be safe and know I have the strength in my block to hold up like Dart offers. I've been looking at sportsman blocks but its $2000 for just the block not including the machining for the 347 stroker I would like to put in. Obviously I want to get the best deal I can and money is tight but I want the job done right. If you cold give me some advice on this it might bring the pile of parts I have in my living room one step closer to being installed.

I'm looking for a street/strip motor I'm not planning on alot of power nothing over 600 if I even get to 600 I just want to build a soild motor that I know will hold up...this is my first motor that I am building and just like to get the opinions of people who have already been down the road.

thanks for the help everybody

Ok not to sound harsh......

you may want to set your goals a little lower......

400 hp on a street cat is extremly respectable.....

Also a lot cheaper than 600......

take it from my experience anything over 500 horsepower will cost big bucks to build.....

Because not only will you have to build the motor.....

It gonna take money to set up the rest of the car to handle that power.......
