My friend drives a 86' lx and the steering is so loose he has to move his hands to make a corner.
Any probable causes for this?

Rack and pinion is shot or there is something wrong with the linkage from the wheel to the rack

hey thanks for the reply, tonight i'll get under there and see if i can spot anything. The other night his rotor broke loose causing it to rub. We are going to replace the bearings today. When we took the RF wheel off, we found that their was no dust cap, an improperly placed cotterpin, and it was missing the back bearing.

Does the steering tighten up as it gets closer to full turn left or right? If it gets better then, it's a worn out rack. The gearing inside it wears out most with the wheels pointed forward, hence the slack in steering.
