Default 1987-1989 Mustang interior options

ive got an 88 hatch, i want to get rid of that horrible red interior. id like to go all black, but i really dont want to paint the 1/4 plastics. so im thinking smoke/gray w/e ford calls it. id still like to put in some black accents though (carpet, maybe armrests, seatbelts). did ford make a gray/black dash in 87-89? black top potion and gray from the vents down. i know they did in 90 but i really dont want to fab up a dash from 90+ to make it fit.
sorry for the novel above and thanks!

Look at late model restoration (one of our sponsors) for OE paint that you can paint plastics and I think vinyl, I am not sure about carpet dye but I know that they do offer formed carpet and probably the rest of the upholstery too. Look on ebay too. By painting the plastic you have you don't have to find all the pieces.

i had to fix a hole in one of the 1/4 plastics and i painted it after. it looked like crap. after fixing the hole, that spot just stood out. plus the paint didnt look that great either. i did all the proper prep work and everything. i want to get all factory gray/smoke panels. the carpet/headliner ill get new from 50resto. as for finding factory gray/smoke panels thats not a problem (ebay, craigslist, and the all mustang junkyard 30 min from my house). i just need to know if in 87-89 there was a factory black/gray(smoke) dash.

If I remember correctly, I have seen some late 80's mustangs at the junkyard with gray panels. It was a darker gray not like the titanium gray I have in my 92. I've gone the two-tone black/gray route in my car. Front seats are black leather from a sn95. Rear seat is black leather from a 92 gt. Armrests and floormats are black over gray. Good luck

At least you found one. Mine has the gray interior and it really looks good when you add contrasting black areas like the center armrest.
