...Im getting ready to buy a CAM, but the more I read about it, it confuse me more and more..so, now I turn to you guys, more experienced gear heads.. first I thought I want the E303, since it's really popular and supposedly great on stock and boosted engine, but I recently read a comment from somebody here to stay away from it...
So now the question is... what would be the best or atleast the GOOD CAM for mildly modified mustang... good idle sound, low end power, high end power and other good stuff..
Stay away from the alphabet cams, profile gives you a narrow RPM power band compared to newer designs.
Call custom cam grinder for your specific application, they are not as expensive as you might think. I got mine for $200.
Comp Cams hotline will also give you a pretty good recommendation if you want that route.
Would need to know engine cubic inch, rear gear ratio, heads, compression ratio, header type and RPM range you want before recommending anything. The rest I saw in your profile.
The Ford cams are over 20 years old, you can do so much better.
Don't worry about trying to understand about the technical aspects, there's even professionals who don't fully understand them. This is when you take the advice of someone who's in the business.
As many of us say here, the cam needs to be the LAST thing you get. So many go right for the cam when they want to change things and that's the wrong thing to do.
We need to know several things:
cylinder heads
intake
pistons
compression ratio
vehicle weight
tire size
rear gear ratio
transmission
intention with the car
is smog legality a concern
Choosing a cam isn't a simple pick-this-one situation.

in regards with the FR CAMs,,, that's the reason why I asked, coz i've listened and read bunch of good article about it, but also read a comment to stay away from it..THX
now, this is what I have...
GT40 intake, GT40 heads(not in yet, waiting for cam), 3.55gear, 5speed, stock block(for now-shooting for 347 in the future..**wondering if it would be wise to get a cam to match the 347!?) Road racing(my intetion for the car), equal lenght shorties, 65mm tb, stock pony wheels with 245 rear tire.
So, any suggestion on what cam I could use? part number or dealer number if posible.
thx
